Sonics Signs Business Agreement with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology

Sonics , a wireless communication filter foundry specialist, announced on the 26th that it signed a 'MOU for joint research and development of next-generation filter and foundry process modeling based on artificial intelligence (AI)' with the REMY (RF Microwave System) Laboratory at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

REMY Lab's main research areas include AI-based wireless signal processing, high-frequency filter design, data analysis, and development of an artificial intelligence platform using machine learning technology. It also has research capabilities related to high-frequency filters using piezoelectric materials.

Through this agreement, REMY Lab will develop an artificial intelligence modeling program and conduct deep learning-based analysis based on the RF filter foundry process design kit (PDK) data provided by Sonics. Sonics expects various process improvement effects such as foundry process optimization, shortening of filter development lead time, and yield improvement through this.

A Sonics official said, “The introduction of AI-based process modeling is one of the key technologies to enhance the competitiveness of next-generation RF filter development,” and added, “In addition to this agreement, we participated in the International Microwave Symposium (IMS 2024) held in San Francisco, USA in June and introduced 6-inch TF-SAW and wafer-level packaging-based foundry services, and we are also pursuing expansion of cooperation with global customers.”
