MegaZone Consortium Builds Seoul National University Hospital Cloud-Based Disaster Recovery Center

MegaZone Consortium announced on the 26th that it has completed the construction of a cloud-based disaster recovery (DR) center at Seoul National University Hospital.

Since May of last year, MegaZone and MegaZone Healthcare Consortium have been building a DR center called 'BESTBunker!' that can operate normally even in the event of a disaster for major systems of Seoul National University Hospital, including the Medical Information System (HIS), Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS), and groupware.

This construction project focused on minimizing the interruption of hospital treatment and business services even in the event of system failure due to major disasters, fires, hacking, etc. To this end, it was designed to replicate medical data and the entire operating system in real time and enable automatic switching in the event of failure.

In particular, this project is evaluated as the first disaster recovery system in a domestic medical institution that replicates the entire hospital business system.

MegaZone Consortium designed and built a private cloud DR center based on a software-defined data center (SDDC), established a DR system for core business systems such as HIS and PACS, established a disaster recovery protocol suitable for large medical institutions, and developed DR transition and simulation training scenarios.

MegaZone Director Ko Dae-young, who was in charge of the overall project, said, “The construction of this DR center is significant in that it goes beyond simple data recovery and implements an advanced disaster recovery system that replicates and automatically switches over the hospital’s core systems in real time,” adding, “We will continue to work on providing technological support and improving infrastructure so that domestic medical institutions can continue to provide treatment and work without interruption even in unexpected disaster situations.”
