LiDAR leader SOS Lab announced on the 24th that CEO Jeong Ji-seong has been inaugurated as the 3rd Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence University-Industry-Research Association (AIURI).
The AI Industry-Academia-Research Association is a non-profit organization launched in July 2021 with the participation of approximately 140 AI-related companies, universities, and research institutes in the Gwangju area. Under the vision of ‘building a global cooperation platform leading the AI industry,’ it is carrying out projects such as ▲policy establishment ▲training of professional personnel ▲corporate support for the development of the domestic AI industry.
The AI Industry-Academia-Research Association is conducting various policy research such as AI industry status surveys and ecosystem analysis, establishing AI industry development directions, etc., and is also actively involved in establishing roadmaps and status surveys for AI talent development, and building industry-academia-research cooperation networks. In addition, it is discovering joint cooperation projects such as AI industry exhibitions, seminars, and conferences to support companies in enhancing their competitiveness.
CEO Jeong, who was recently inaugurated as the third chairman, founded SOS Lab, a lidar technology company, while he was a doctoral student at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). SOS Lab attracted the market’s attention last year when it became the first domestic autonomous driving-related lidar startup to be listed on KOSDAQ.
Representative Jeong said, “AI has firmly established itself as a core technology driving innovation across industries,” and added, “The association will continue to serve as a bridgehead for industry-academia-research cooperation for the development of the domestic AI industry, strengthening technological capabilities, and fostering talent.”
He continued, “We will also focus on devising practical support measures so that domestic AI companies can be competitive in the global market,” and added, “We will do our best to fulfill our assigned duties so that a second or third SOS Lab can emerge.”
Meanwhile, SOS Lab, led by CEO Jeong, specializes in developing and manufacturing fixed 3D lidar and 2D lidar that can be used in various fields such as autonomous vehicles, robots, and smart cities. Based on its differentiated technological prowess, SOS Lab is collaborating with global top-tier partners and actively advancing into related markets.
