Ipopsoft Appoints Woojun Kim as New CEO

Epopsoft, which operates the AI English learning app 'Speak Up', announced on the 17th that it recently held a regular shareholders' meeting and appointed Chief Product Officer (CPO) Woojun Kim as the new CEO.

Former CEO Jong-Heum Park and former CEO Young-Min Choi, who planned the initial model of Malboka, will focus on discovering and planning new businesses for Epopsoft as Chief Creative Officer (CCO).

The new CEO, Woojun Kim, joined Epopsoft in January 2019 and started as the co-CTO in charge of the development of 'Speak Up'. He will serve as CPO from April 2023 and has distinguished himself in product advancement and rapid execution. Kim, who started his career at Widget Studio (now Nexon), the developer of 'MapleStory', while attending Seoul National University's Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, was promoted to development team leader after two years and has since built his career at Electronic Arts (EA) and mobile game company Party Games.

Since joining Epopsoft, CEO Kim has led the product development of 'Speaking Boka', and together with former CEOs Jong-Heum Park and Young-Min Choi, combined gamification elements and educational content based on their game development experience to maximize the learning effect. He added listening and grammar learning to the English word quiz-based vocabulary learning of the initial model, and designed it so that users can gradually build their English skills. Through this, 'Speaking Boka' has developed into a comprehensive learning app. In 2023, 'Epop', the Japanese version of 'Speaking Boka', was successfully launched.

Epopsoft stated, “We are planning to develop conversational learning that can create synergy with the learning areas we are currently servicing, and we plan to accelerate expansion into the global market including Spanish-speaking countries.” They cited “leadership with deep understanding of the product and quick execution capabilities” as the reason for appointing CPO Woojun Kim as CEO.

CEO Woojun Kim said, “For the past seven years, Epopsoft has been proposing a new paradigm of ‘fun and burden-free English education’,” and expressed his ambitions by saying, “We will further increase the service value of Malhaboka and grow into a company that leads the domestic and international edutech market through new business development.”
