Vincen Co., Ltd. (CEO Chil-Hwan Lee), a company specializing in eco-friendly ship technology, announced that it had won the bid for the 'Hoeya Dam Administrative Guidance Ship Construction and Charging Facility Installation' project promoted by Ulsan Metropolitan City, and signed the final contract on March 20.
This project was carried out to improve the eco-friendly image of Hoeya Dam, Ulsan’s main water source, by applying eco-friendly technologies such as battery electric propulsion and aluminum hulls. The administrative guidance vessel currently operating at Hoeya Dam is a gasoline-based vessel introduced in 2006, and there have been continuous concerns about aging due to long-term operation, as well as water quality contamination in the event of an accident.
Accordingly, Ulsan City has selected Vincen, which has the capacity to manufacture eco-friendly ships, as the business operator and plans to complete the construction of new electric ships and charging infrastructure by November 2025.
The administrative guidance ship that Vincent will build is approximately 10m in total length, 3.0m in total width, 0.6m in full load draft, and less than 5 tons in gross tonnage, and is an electric propulsion ship that can carry up to 12 people. The ship will operate mainly from the Hoeya Dam wharf to the ecological wetland section of the upper reaches of the Hoeya River.
In particular, it is designed to operate continuously for more than 5 hours at an average speed, reflecting on-site characteristics such as dam water level fluctuations, by applying an electric propulsion system equipped with two lithium-ion batteries. A 50kW high-efficiency charging facility is also planned to be built.
Following the successful delivery of Korea's first all-electric passenger ship, the Garden Dream, to the '2023 Suncheon Bay International Garden Expo', Vincen has proven its eco-friendly marine mobility technology through various demonstration projects, including the cruise ship 'Kim Si-min 2' in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, and the development of a hydrogen fuel cell-based leisure ship. At the '2025 Seoul Mobility Show' held until the 13th, the company showcased its new leisure electric ship, 'Epoch II', once again proving its technological leadership in the eco-friendly marine mobility field.
A Vincen official said, “This order is a recognition of our electric and hydrogen-based ship development technology as well as our continued investment and performance in future eco-friendly mobility solutions such as fuel cell systems.” He added, “Considering the importance of the Hoeya Dam as a water source and its ecological value, we will complete a next-generation electric ship that is both safe and environmentally friendly.”
He added, “We will carry out the project successfully with a sense of responsibility so that it can strengthen disaster response capabilities within the dam and become a new model for an eco-friendly public vessel that is trusted by citizens.”
