Sweet Spot (CEO Kim Jeong-su), a pop-up store specialist, has signed a business agreement (MOU) with upcycling platform Pop-Up Cycle (CEO Kwon Jae-ho). Through this agreement, the two companies will jointly establish an eco-friendly system that recycles demolition materials from the pop-up store industry through second-hand transactions.
The core of this collaboration is the introduction of a recommerce model that selects and re-distributes pop-up store materials that were used for a short period of time rather than discarding them. Reusable materials such as small furniture, display props, and lighting are collected and resold to consumers as used items, creating a circular economy structure.
The two companies will collaborate over a period of six months until October in three stages: ▲material collection ▲online platform distribution structure design ▲consumer marketing that reflects environmental sensitivity. The collection target is limited to reusable items such as small furniture, display props, and lighting, and materials related to personal information, IP, and brand intellectual property rights are excluded.
Sweet Spot plans to establish ESG-centered eco-friendly operation standards and apply them to business models in the mid- to long-term after examining the effectiveness, operational sustainability, and consumer response of the recommerce structure through collaboration.
Kwon Jae-ho, CEO of Pop-up Cycle, said, “Pop-up store materials are not disposable waste but valuable recyclable resources,” and added, “Through this agreement, we will extend the life cycle of discarded props after pop-up stores and create a sustainable cultural trend that can be connected to consumers’ everyday spaces.”
Kim Jeong-su, CEO of Sweet Spot, said, “The issue of waste generated after the closure of pop-up stores is an environmental issue that has been consistently raised throughout the industry,” and added, “Through this collaboration, we will establish responsible waste management standards and create industry best practices for converting the one-time use of pop-up store materials to recycling and reuse.”
Meanwhile, Sweet Spot provides pop-up specialized services covering the entire process from pop-up store planning to design and construction, marketing, sales, and goods production, and has successfully completed approximately 8,200 projects to date. Since last year, it has been expanding its business areas by successively introducing the multi-IP goods shop 'Popga Store', the exclusive pop-up store space 'Sweet Spot Stage', and the pop-up information platform 'Popga'.
