DLG Law Firm Opens ‘AI Center’

DLG Law Firm announced on the 1st that it has officially launched the 'AI Center' that will provide professional advice in the fields of artificial intelligence and law. DLG AI Center will provide professional advice to proactively respond to legal issues resulting from the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology and support the development of artificial intelligence-based legal tech services.

The DLG AI Center will actively conduct research and advisory activities in various fields, such as developing AI-based legal tech services, improving the quality of legal services using AI, supporting the enactment and revision of AI-related laws, and establishing and institutionalizing ethical standards for a ‘human-centered’ AI society. In particular, it will introduce the concept of ‘Legal Cognition’ to support lawyers’ argument analysis, AI-based legal education, and improving legal cognition in the legislative and administrative fields.

The newly opened DLG AI Center will be led by Director Lee Su-hwa, who received his master’s and doctoral degrees from Seoul National University’s Cognitive Science Collaborative Program and served as a research professor at Hallym University’s AI Convergence Research Institute. Director Lee has focused on research and development of AI-based cognitive software to reduce users’ cognitive load and support effective learning. He also has practical technology implementation capabilities that cross academia and industry, such as publishing books based on research results that converge AI edutech and behavioral science.

The DELG AI Center is conducting research and development on commercial AI service systems, planning and designing AI-based software distribution packages and user contact services, and designing usability of systems based on cognitive science and experimental science. Its main services include consulting on AI-based legal service development, consulting on AI industry regulation, and analysis of Korean legal trends in the AI industry. The DELG AI Center also plans to hold regular colloquiums on the use of AI in the legal field.

“DLG had already launched an AI-based articles of incorporation review service around July 2020, before ChatGPT was introduced,” said Cho Won-hee, managing attorney at DLG Law Firm. “Based on our existing diverse development and advisory experience, DLG AI Center plans to attempt to utilize AI at a different level with Center Director Lee Soo-hwa.”
