The Korea SMEs and Startups Certification Institute (President Jin-yeop Eom, KOSRE) announced that the Korea Environment Corporation (Chairman Sang-jun Lim) obtained ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) certification.
The ISO 14001 certificate and certification plaque award ceremony was held on the 26th at the Korea Environment Corporation Green Hall with the attendance of Director Eom Jin-yeop of the Korea SMEs and Startups Certification Institute, Director Lim Sang-jun of the Korea Environment Corporation, and officials from both organizations.
ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems, which is granted by having organizations such as companies and institutions undergo an evaluation and verification of the effectiveness of their environmental management strategies, systems, and operations through an independent professional certification body in accordance with the requirements of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
The scope of this Korea Environment Corporation certification is the entire scope of business, including environmental pollution prevention, environmental improvement, resource recycling promotion, and greenhouse gas reduction projects to respond to climate change, in accordance with the purpose of Article 1 of the Korea Environment Corporation Act.
As a global environmental expert organization, the Korea Environment Corporation has proactively established environmental goals for achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and has been leading environmental management activities to achieve carbon neutrality, such as ▲establishing a specific implementation base and strategic system for each sector, ▲establishing annual carbon neutrality goals and implementation plans for each department, ▲promoting energy diet and energy independence, ▲implementing employee lifestyle practice campaigns, and introducing eco-friendly shared transportation (cars, bicycles) for the first time among public institutions.
In addition, based on institutional implementation and expertise in all environmental fields including water, air, resource circulation, and climate change response, the organization is striving to achieve not only its own eco-friendly carbon neutrality, but also national carbon neutrality and a healthy and happy environment for the people through support for businesses and local communities.
In order to objectively verify such environmental management activities, the Korea Small and Medium Venture Business Certification Institute, a government-affiliated specialized certification agency, has received certification review and its achievements have been recognized externally. In addition, Korea Environment Corporation has obtained Occupational Safety and Health Management System (KOSHA-MS) certification and Anti-corruption and Compliance Management (ISO37001, ISO37301) certification to advance ESG management. With the acquisition of the Environmental Management System (ISO14001), it has achieved a grand slam of obtaining all international certifications related to ESG management: environment (E), safety (S), and anti-corruption (G).
Korea Environment Corporation CEO Lim Sang-jun said, “We expect that this ISO 14001 certification will create a synergy effect by combining our corporation’s environmental expertise with international standards,” adding, “As a global environmental expert organization, we will strive to lead global ESG not only domestically but also in the international community.”
President Jin-Yeop Eom said, “The ISO 14001 certification for the Korea Environment Corporation has a more special and symbolic meaning than that of other companies or organizations. In particular, as the leading public organization in the environmental field, it will serve as a milestone that shows the direction of eco-friendly management to other public organizations.”
Meanwhile, the Small and Medium Venture Business Certification Institute is a public specialized certification and evaluation organization under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups established with investment from the Small and Medium Venture Business Promotion Agency. It is carrying out various projects such as ISO certification, certified company education and training, certification auditor training, ESG management level diagnosis, and labor-management cooperation certification.
