JLK, Inc., a medical artificial intelligence (AI) solution specialist, announced that its AI-based MRI FLAIR imaging solution (JLK-FLAIR) has received approval from the Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) under the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan, providing a turning point for a paradigm shift in stroke diagnosis in Japan.
JLK-FLAIR is an AI-based solution that analyzes and visualizes high-signal intensity areas of MRI FLAIR (Fluid-Attenuated Inversion Recovery) images and measures the volume of those areas.
MRI FLAIR images are not only used to evaluate the appropriateness of treatment for patients with acute ischemic stroke, but are also used to predict cognitive decline and dementia risk based on quantitative analysis of white matter hydrolysis (WMH).
JLK-FLAIR is an innovative solution that can solve these problems. This is because it can improve the standard clinical pathway (CP) of medical staff through AI-based analysis and ultimately contribute to patient treatment. In particular, it is expected that high-quality image analysis support will be possible even in regional hospitals and small and medium-sized medical institutions.
JLK has already obtained approval for JLK-CTP, JLK-PWI, and JLK-NCCT in Japan, and with this fourth JLK-FLAIR approval, it plans to strengthen collaboration with medical institutions in Japan and expand the introduction of AI-based stroke diagnosis solutions.
JLK CEO Kim Dong-min said, “JLK is currently commercializing a package solution subscription model in Japan,” and added, “In the Japanese market, package solution sales are more profitable than individual sales in terms of maintenance costs, so quick monetization is possible.”
In particular, he emphasized, “Compared to selling individual units of the same product, supplying in package form has the same maintenance cost, so the profit rate can be increased without additional costs,” and “As the number of additional solution licenses increases, the profit structure will also increase, which will also contribute to increasing sales in Japan.”
