Chung-Ang University (President Sang-Kyu Park) Virtual Convergence College announced on the 26th that it held a 'Virtual Convergence College XR Tourism Content Preview' at 'IM WE SPACE' in room B211, Building 310, Seoul Campus on the 24th.
This XR tourism content preview was attended by students and related personnel who participated in the project, and presentations and demonstrations were held for each project.
The '2024 Attractive Laos' project is the first attempt by a domestic university to collaborate between Virtual Convergence University, local Laotian company Solutech, and startup students from the National University of Laos. From January 5 to 9, 2024, representative tourist attractions in Laos such as That Luang Temple, Patuxay Arch, Sihom Night Market, and Blue Lagoon were filmed using state-of-the-art 360-degree cameras and drones in Laos. After about a month of post-production, the final content was completed through the development of cutting-edge XR applications such as 360-degree video editing, sound mixing, and UI/UX design. In particular, this project is significant in that it is the first XR tourism content produced through direct collaboration between students from both Korea and Laos.
The completed XR content was produced under four themes: Buddhism, Nature, Lifestyle, and Heritage, and can be experienced directly through the Chung-Ang University Virtual Convergence University website.
Dean Wi Jeong-Hyeon of Chung-Ang University’s College of Virtual Convergence said, “This project is an innovative attempt that combines Korea’s cutting-edge XR technology with Laos’ rich cultural heritage. We plan to continuously expand this cooperation model that combines Korea’s excellent IT technology with the charm of Southeast Asia to several countries in the future.”
President Park Sang-gyu said, “I would like to thank the students for their hard work in successfully completing the project despite difficult circumstances,” and added, “If we look in the same direction and put creative ideas into practice, our university will be able to pioneer a more innovative path.”
Meanwhile, the Virtual Convergence University plans to continuously expand projects that reproduce various global cultural heritages using XR technology, starting with this project, and increase the production of cultural and tourism content using cutting-edge XR technology through cooperation with countries in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, Eastern Europe, etc.
