Mimetics announced that it will participate in the 'Large-area Wafer-level Flexible Tensile Hybrid Sensor Platform Technology Development Project for Free-form High-density Convergence Sensors' hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
This project is a long-term research and development project with a total budget of 12 billion won and will be conducted for 7 years. The Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (main organization), the Korea Electronics Technology Research Institute, Sungkyunkwan University, Ajou University, and Korea University will participate as joint research institutes. Mimetics aims to develop a skin patch sensor for diagnosing skin diseases, illnesses, and conditions in collaboration with these research institutes.
Mimetics is a company founded at Sungkyunkwan University that specializes in the development of technologies that mimic nature. In particular, it has developed a skin-friendly patch using a three-dimensional dome-structured adhesive technology inspired by the suction cups of octopus legs. This technology has the characteristics of maintaining strong adhesiveness even in various humid environments and leaving no chemical residue. Through this, Mimetics has developed a transdermal drug delivery wearable patch, and compared to existing adhesives, it has achieved the results of reducing skin irritation by four times and increasing the skin penetration depth of hyaluronic acid and peptide ingredients by up to three times.
In addition, Mimetics has developed a skin adhesive patch that can contain cosmetic formulations, providing a simple beauty method through patch attachment, and has reported the effect of increasing the depth of skin delivery of cosmetic ingredients by 2 to 4 times. Through this, Mimetics plans to strengthen its competitiveness in the global market by cooperating with partner cosmetic companies through the ODM business.
A Mimetics official said, “Through this business, we expect to establish a technological foundation for advancing beyond the existing skin beauty industry into the medical and pharmaceutical industries, and we will provide differentiated skincare solutions through products scheduled to be released within the first half of the year.”
