Investment specialist accelerator CNT Tech (CEO Jeon Hwa-seong) has invested in Octob (CEO Gong Nak-hyeon), which is developing a rail-based unmanned automatic electric vehicle charging infrastructure system (SkyCharger). The investment amount is undisclosed.
Octobre took notice of the problems that arise from existing fixed-type electric vehicle chargers and provides a solution that utilizes empty spaces such as the ceiling and walls of parking lots to install rails on which chargers can move, allowing multiple vehicles to be automatically charged with one charger.
In the meantime, there were problems such as drivers moving their vehicles according to the charging completion time, and if the charging time was exceeded, other users were unable to charge their vehicles, causing inconveniences or conflicts between neighbors. Despite these problems, there are limits to increasing the number of electric vehicle chargers due to issues such as securing power to install charging facilities and lack of parking spaces for general vehicles.
To solve this problem, we designed a method in which the charger moves along the rails, so that the charger moves automatically without the driver having to move the vehicle and charge according to the reservation order, and shares the parking space with general vehicles, thereby expanding the range of parking spaces available for electric vehicles, thereby solving the problems of electric vehicle charging and parking at the same time.
Octob signed a PoC contract with LG Electronics in August 2024 to jointly develop and verify various charging solutions, and agreed to promote a joint pilot project targeting various customers in 2025. In addition, starting with the certification and launch of an 11kW slow charger, it plans to expand its product line to include medium-speed (DC30kW), 50kW rapid chargers, electric vehicle chargers for mechanical parking lots, and bidirectional chargers, and to enter overseas markets through open collaboration with large corporations.
Octob CEO Gong Nak-hyun said, “SkyCharger” is not a charger but a ‘charging infrastructure,’ and added, “By developing charging infrastructure with ease of use, we will solve the problems of electric vehicle charging and parking inconveniences in the expanding electric vehicle market, and furthermore, by solving power grid infrastructure problems through a power demand response (DR) solution using V2G (bidirectional charging), we will contribute to solving environmental problems in our society.”
