A generative AI chatbot service optimized for the library industry is attracting attention.
Artificial intelligence startup MindLogic (Co-CEOs Yongwoo Kim and Jinwook Kim) announced on the 20th that it is expanding its services by building a generative AI-based guidance chatbot in university libraries.
MindLogic is expanding the introduction of AI chatbots in university libraries, starting with Seoul National University’s Central Library. MindLogic, which has developed AI solutions to help with communication and interaction within the university, such as chatbots that guide multilingual university homepages, is aiming to apply AI to library services in the future to provide more detailed and intuitive information.
The library guide chatbot developed by MindLogic is designed to enable library users to obtain necessary information more conveniently through a natural language-based conversation interface, breaking away from the existing menu-based guidance method such as a simple FAQ service. It features AI that understands the context and provides necessary information accurately and friendly when users ask natural language-based questions as if they were talking to a person. It also provides highly reliable information by being equipped with a hallucination suppression function that generates incorrect answers.
The library guide chatbot is a highly accessible web-based service that can be easily used by a variety of users, including undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty, as it is installed on the library website without installing a separate app. Users can quickly obtain all the information necessary for using the library, such as borrowing/return/interlibrary loan service procedures, operating hours, how to use reading rooms and facilities, library events, and announcements, through the chatbot without having to navigate through the menu, which is efficient.
In particular, this chatbot is noteworthy because it is designed to recognize and interpret even specialized terms and complex service procedures. For example, if you ask, “I am a graduate. Can I borrow books?”, the chatbot will explain in detail the process of registering as an ‘alumni member’, the cost, the number of books that can be borrowed, and restrictions, and even provide links to related services as reference materials to help users easily check additional information.
MindLogic plans to expand the introduction of AI chatbots to several universities and public libraries. Currently, it is providing and operating homepage guidance chatbots to seven universities, and is actively discussing collaboration with many universities for additional introductions. It plans to increase the efficiency of information provision and maximize user experience through customized chatbots that reflect the operation method and user characteristics of each institution.
MindLogic Co-CEO Jinwook Kim said, “The use of AI in educational and public institutions, including libraries, is an important change that will improve user convenience and enhance information accessibility,” adding, “We will accelerate AX (AI transformation) by building an optimized AI environment centered on universities and public libraries, and continue technology development and research so that MindLogic’s advanced artificial intelligence technology can be effectively utilized in each specialized environment.”
Meanwhile, MindLogic is securing a leading position in the generative AI-based chatbot service market and continuously expanding its scope of use. It is expanding the generative AI ecosystem through collaboration with various organizations and companies, such as the Schopenhauer Persona chatbot at Milli's Library, the multilingual homepage guidance chatbot installed at Sookmyung Women's University and Sogang University, and the teaching assistant chatbot that complements the communication gap between professors and students.
