Naver D2SF, follow-up investment in Moobin

Naver D2SF (D2 Startup Factory) has made a follow-up investment in ‘Moobin (CEO Choi Byeol-i),’ an AI-based real-time markerless motion capture technology startup. Naver D2SF discovered Moobin during the pre-startup stage and made a seed investment in 2023, and made a follow-up investment after focusing on the product development performance to date and future growth potential. Moobin’s Pre-A round was led by Atinum Investment, with participation from Naver D2SF, Crew Capital, and others.

Moobin has developed the world's first real-time markerless motion capture technology using LiDAR sensors. By using LiDAR sensors, spatial information such as distance and depth can be secured without distortion, enabling more precise capture of 3D joints, bone structures, angles, etc. Another advantage is that it can capture motion in real time as it allows immediate data processing without complex post-processing. In addition, it boasts excellent price competitiveness and accessibility as it does not require separate markers or sensors.

Currently, Movin is launching its first core product, 'Movin Tracing (MOVIN TRACIN),' and is fully embarking on a global business. It has already secured more than 50 game, VFX, and virtual companies in 11 countries around the world as customers, and at 'GDC 2025,' the world's largest game exhibition, it has received positive responses as a high-quality motion capture tool that can be set up in just 5 minutes and applied immediately. In addition, it plans to launch a platform that generates and provides 3D motion data in the second half of this year. Movin has secured a large amount of triple datasets that combine LiDAR, RGB camera, and motion capture data, which are rare even globally, and has data production capabilities that are more than 20% more efficient than existing solutions.

Mubin is a team that Naver D2SF discovered in the preliminary startup stage in 2023, incubated, and received seed investment. Within a year of its founding, it quickly proved its core technology development, productization, and paid market, leading to this Pre-A round of investment. Naver D2SF supported Mubin to build a motion dataset using 1784’s infrastructure, and is also continuously seeking collaboration points with Naver’s virtual technology and business organizations.

Yang Sang-hwan, head of Naver D2SF Center, said, “3D motion data is essential for AI to understand human movements and behaviors, and the demand will increase beyond the entertainment industry such as VTubers and games to various fields such as robotics and medicine.” He added, “Moobin is a team that is growing rapidly based on excellent execution capabilities, and is expected to expand beyond 3D motion capture to a 3D motion data platform in the future.”

Meanwhile, Naver D2SF has been actively pursuing new investments as well as follow-up investments in various fields such as AI, virtual tech, and mobility, by continuously announcing five new investments during the first quarter of this year. It is currently recruiting new investment teams through its website, and the campus technology startup competition that discovered Moobin is also scheduled to begin recruiting in early April.
