The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as MSS) and the Korea SMEs and Startups Distribution Agency (CEO Lee Tae-sik, hereinafter referred to as KMSD) held a TOPS declaration ceremony at the Westin Chosun Seoul Hotel on the 18th with approximately 70 people including 10 top-tier private platform companies in each field and excellent online sellers.
This event marks the beginning of the TOPS program, where top-tier private platform companies in each field directly discover promising small business brands with high growth potential and provide step-by-step online sales channels by investing resources through 1:1 matching with the government.
TOPS will be implemented in three stages. Stage 1 will provide 1:1 customized consulting to 3,000 small business owners directly selected by the platform company. Stage 2 will select 300 small business owners selected in Stage 1 and provide support for promotional costs such as advertising and logistics costs to activate sales and maximize sales. In addition, dedicated funds will be provided in conjunction with support.
In the final third stage, the 30 'TOPS of the Year' companies will be selected and supported to help small business owners grow into small businesses through special exhibitions and offline pop-up stores. In addition, in addition to government support, private platform companies, which are implementing agencies, will also provide small business owners with customized specialized programs that they have autonomously organized for each stage.
Meanwhile, at the declaration ceremony, the 10 platform companies selected as implementing organizations with Hanyuwon signed a business agreement for the operation of the TOPS program, and through the ceremony, expressed their will to foster online sales star small business owners and establish a process for small business owners to grow into small enterprises.
In addition, through a talk concert as a side event, we shared our opinions with major platform MDs and excellent small business sellers on the topic of 'the importance of online sales channels and the role of platforms', including the need for collaboration between platforms and small business owners, the importance of online sales channels, and what we want from the government.
Next, among the 10 platform companies selected as implementing organizations, two platform companies, SSG and SK Stoa, had time to announce customized specialized programs for small business owners that they will pursue through TOPS in the future.
SSG, a food platform company, said that in order to ensure stable market settlement of new sellers, it plans to operate a window to regularly receive complaints by reducing page creation, main banner exposure, external advertising, and commission rates, and assigning dedicated MDs to each partner company.
In addition, the company announced that it will secure profits and sales through customized product development for each small business owner, provision of specialized promotional accounts for new products, and provide opportunities to expand offline sales channels through operation of SSG Food Exhibition booths and utilization of SSG affiliates.
SK Stoa, a comprehensive platform company, plans to support online sales expansion through SK Group’s sales channels such as SK Membership and T Deal. It will also allow the use of SK Group’s marketing resources and affiliated OUT accounts, and support promotional events through TV PPL-linked home shopping. In addition, it announced plans to provide offline sales opportunities through Hyundai Department Store pop-up stores, etc.
Minister of SMEs and Startups Oh Young-joo said, “We are trying to present a new milestone for the partnership between the platform-small business-government through the TOPS program, where the platform directly discovers and fosters promising small business owners in their key fields.” He added, “If we can create a model in which small business owners grow and innovate, and small businesses grow as well, we will be able to bring about positive changes in the online platform ecosystem.”
