Ministry of SMEs and Startups Opens 'Daejeon Startup Park'

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced on the 18th that it held an opening ceremony for the Daejeon Startup Park, an innovative startup cluster.

The Daejeon Startup Park, which is opening this time, is a space jointly created by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Daejeon Metropolitan City to lay the foundation for startups to grow through free communication and exchange with investors, large and medium-sized companies, universities, and other related organizations. It is the second startup park to open following the Incheon Startup Park that opened in 2021.

Daejeon Startup Park was designed with space in mind by considering points, lines, and planes, as well as growth plans for startups. The concept is that individual startups and their housing/incubation spaces, which correspond to points, gather around the street to form a line, and the startup street is combined with the living and cultural space to form a plane.

The Daejeon Street Startup Cluster will consist of a total of 10 buildings, including 9 surrounding subsidiary buildings, centered around the anchor building, Startup Park, and approximately 100 spaces for tenants. Among the subsidiary buildings, S-Bridge (3 buildings) is being built and operated by Shinhan Financial Group, and H-Bridge (3 buildings) is being built by Hana Bank and is scheduled to open in the first half of this year, which is significant in that it will create a sustainable startup ecosystem led by the private sector.

The Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center, the operating agency of the Daejeon Startup Park, plans to focus on fostering regional science and technology-based startups. As part of this, it supports public technology transfers utilizing new technologies from government-funded research institutes and universities in the Daejeon region to secure the competitiveness of deep-tech startups.

In addition, in order to help startups and excellent human resources settle in, we plan to support housing expenses for executives and employees of companies that have moved into the Daejeon Startup Park, and in the future, we plan to support rent for companies that have graduated from the Startup Park and settle in Daejeon.

On this day, the opening ceremony was attended by approximately 100 people including Director of Startup and Venture Innovation Office of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups Lim Jeong-wook, Mayor of Daejeon Metropolitan City Lee Jang-woo, Chairman of Daejeon Metropolitan City Council Cho Won-hui, CEO of Daejeon Creative Economy Innovation Center Park Dae-hee, and companies that have moved in to celebrate the opening of Daejeon Startup Park and inspect the startup space.

Lim Jeong-wook, director of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “Startup Park is a space where startups and related organizations can physically gather and interact, and Daejeon Startup Park will become a key location for the startup ecosystem of Daejeon, a city centered on science and startups.” He added, “The Ministry of SMEs and Startups will continue to provide support to foster a local startup foundation and help promising local startups grow.”
