The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced on the 17th that it will be recruiting small business owners for the 2025 Small Business Online Sales Channel Support Project, which will support small business owners’ entry into the online market and sales channel development.
Starting with the 'Online Shopping Mall Sales Support Notice (2/25~, Recruitment on a rolling basis)', we plan to sequentially post small business recruitment notices for a total of 16 business categories, including 'Education and Global Market Support (3/5~)', 'Direct Purchase Consultation (3/10~)', 'TV Home Shopping Entry (3/18~)', 'Live Commerce Production (3/18~)', 'Product Improvement (3/21~)', 'Content Production (3/21~)', and 'SNS Utilization Package (3/26~)'.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups has been operating the 'Small Business Online Sales Channel Support Project' for six years ('19-'24) since 2019, selecting a total of 492,000 small business owners and supporting the entire process for small business owners to enter the online market, from education to strengthen online capabilities to channel entry and establishment and operation of comprehensive online infrastructure.
In addition, through gathering expert opinions and conducting research services ('24.12), we have strengthened the institutional foundation to support the stable growth of small business owners by introducing financial soundness evaluations when selecting platform companies starting in '25* ('25.2), and updating the platform's financial information even after selection ('25.4~).
This year, we plan to select and support up to 100,000 small business owners, including small business owners who utilize online infrastructure such as Sodam Square. Applicants are small business owners according to Article 2 of the Small Business Basic Act, and are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of product competitiveness, business participation capacity, etc. based on the evaluation criteria for each business within the history.
In particular, starting this year, we will expand 1:1 on-site education for the digitally vulnerable class aged 50 or older (from 500 to 1,000 people) and shorten the education time at digital specialized universities (from 70 to 30 hours) to ease the educational burden on small business owners. We also plan to establish platform company collaboration education to provide customized education for excellent platform companies with high domestic and international consumer usage rates.
When opening an online mall, we will focus on supporting time deals that exclusively expose small business products, establish direct purchase consultation sessions, and provide opportunities for direct sales to large distributors through 'distribution MD-small business matching' to increase the effectiveness of support projects.
Furthermore, we are reorganizing the global package business so that small business owners can directly select and organize the business contents necessary for initial overseas expansion, such as overseas market analysis, translation, and consulting, and we are supporting small business owners' step-by-step overseas expansion by providing support for entry into overseas shopping malls and linking with global showrooms for those with excellent performance.
In addition, in order to ease the burden on small business owners, we plan to support installment payments (interest-free installment support) for up to 12 months by soliciting affiliated card companies.
Hwang Young-ho, head of the Small Business Management Stability Support Team, said, “As the consumption and distribution structure is reorganized around online, utilizing online platforms is essential for strengthening the competitiveness of small business owners.” He added, “We will strengthen support so that small business owners can grow into small businesses by promoting online entry and adaptation of small business owners through online sales channel support projects.”
