
Marine leisure and tourism platform company Atsuzima Co., Ltd. announced that it will work with the Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea Tourism Organization to discover and develop marine and waterfront convergence and complex theme tourism content in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. The two organizations signed an agreement for mutual cooperation on the 12th.
This agreement is part of a public-private cooperation project, and aims to develop convergence and complex theme products linking marine tourism and waterside resources in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, promote tourism content, and operate customized tourism programs for domestic and international visitors.
Atsuzima Co., Ltd. is a climate and tourism tech company that operates the data-based fishing platform ‘Eosin’. It plans to contribute to solving the problem of depopulated areas and revitalizing the local economy by discovering travel programs linked to local marine and waterside leisure sports such as fishing, surfing, and scuba diving.
Atsushima CEO Dong-Hyeon Lim said, “Recently, the domestic marine leisure and tourism industry has shown continuous growth and has established itself as an important field that accounts for more than 50% of the entire tourism industry.” He added, “Through this cooperation, we hope to create successful cases, respond to the government’s marine leisure and tourism revitalization policy, and contribute to the fostering of the industry and the growth of the regional economy.”
As of 2023, the global marine tourism market size is approximately 2 trillion dollars, recording an average annual growth rate of 4-6%. It is expected to expand to 2.5 trillion dollars by 2027. Marine tourism is also gaining popularity in Korea, and the marine leisure and tourism consumption in coastal areas in Korea in 2023 was approximately 40.943 trillion won, a 9.3% increase from the previous year. This figure accounts for 62.8% of the entire coastal area commercial area, reflecting the people's high interest in the ocean.
Through this agreement, Atsushima Co., Ltd. and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk branch of the Korea Tourism Organization plan to promote various projects to revitalize marine and waterside tourism in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Based on continued cooperation, it is expected to create a new growth engine for the domestic marine tourism industry.
