The Story Foundation, a non-profit foundation for the advancement of global IP blockchain, announced that Story has become the first blockchain company to join the global digital content certification alliance, C2PA (The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity).
C2PA is a consortium jointly founded in 2021 by global IT and media companies such as Adobe, Google, and Microsoft, and focuses on recording the creation and transformation process of digital content to prove its source and prevent the spread of false information. Currently, C2PA's technology is being used in various industries such as news media, social media, digital advertising, and legal institutions, and global companies are using it to strengthen the reliability of digital content.
Story’s joining C2PA has a meaning beyond a simple partnership. It is evaluated as a case that proves that blockchain technology can be combined with the existing global IT and media industries to present a new trust model amid the worsening problems of AI content manipulation and copyright infringement. Unlike existing centralized methods, Story’s blockchain-based system can transparently manage the process of creating, modifying, and distributing content. This can clearly authenticate the source of content, protect copyright, and create a transparent content distribution environment.
An industry insider analyzed, “If Story’s blockchain technology is combined with C2PA’s existing infrastructure, a new standard will be created to ensure data integrity across the digital content industry,” and “In an environment where AI-generated content is explosively increasing, the importance of technology that distinguishes between ‘real’ and ‘fake’ is growing.”
The merger of Story is expected to introduce blockchain technology to C2PA’s core technologies, metadata and digital signature-based authentication systems. This is likely to be a game changer in content source authentication and forgery prevention. As expectations for this technological advancement grow, the market is evaluating that Story’s $IP token will also play a key role in blockchain and AI-based digital content authentication beyond simple virtual assets.
Andrea Muttoni, CEO of Story Foundation, said, “Story’s blockchain technology, when combined with C2PA’s digital authentication system, will be able to make a real contribution to increasing the reliability of digital content.” He added, “We will continue to work with C2PA to help blockchain technology become established as a trust infrastructure in the AI era, and we will take the lead in developing new markets that combine AI, blockchain, and IP.”
