Scent of Sound, Stepping Stone R&D Support Project Selection

Gangneung’s fragrance culture content startup Scent of Sound has been selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT’s Stepping Stone R&D support project, providing an answer to this question. This selection is an unparalleled achievement for a local startup, and is expected to contribute to transforming Gangneung into a city of sensory experiences combining fragrance and music.

The core project of Scent of Sound, 'AI Scent Piano', is an innovative solution that provides customized sensory experiences to users through the fusion technology of music and scent. In particular, the main technologies are an original recipe combining over 100 kinds of natural scents and a QR code-based spraying system, which presents a music-scent matching service based on personal emotional data.

Based on this project, Scent of Sound plans to accelerate its entry into the global market. It will showcase its smart diffuser and scent-music fusion software at global exhibitions such as the 2025 Dubai Content Market and will advance into the B2G and B2B markets.

Park So-hyun, CEO of Scent of Sound, expressed her ambition, saying, “Based on the urban assets of Gangneung and Scent of Sound’s technological prowess, we will grow into a global leader that redefines sensory experiences.”

Scent of Sound focuses not only on technological innovation but also on an economic model that takes sustainability into account. It plans to secure fragrance materials using local resources through cooperation with about 100 cosmetics companies in Gangneung and establish a structure that coexists with the local economy through this. In addition, fragrance content that combines wellness and healthcare has high potential for expansion into the medical and psychotherapy fields, and is attracting attention from related industries.

Meanwhile, Scent of Sound was selected for the R&D project of the Startup Growth Technology Development Project, the first step for startup specialized institutions (Seoul Techno Park), and is currently carrying out a technology development project.
