Sandol 'LG EI Headline' wins iF Design Award 2025

Content creator platform company Sandoll (CEO Youngho Yoon) announced on the 17th that the 'LG EI Headline (LG Emotional Intelligence Headline)' developed in collaboration with LG Electronics Design Management Center (Design Identity Management) won the communication category at the 'iF Design Award 2025'.

The 'iF Design Award' is the world's most prestigious design award that began in 1953, and is considered one of the world's top three design awards, along with the US' IDEA and Germany's Red Dot Design Award.

This year's awards were selected through a strict screening process by 131 judges from over 11,000 works submitted from 66 countries in 82 categories and 9 sectors.

The 'LG EI Headline' font won an award in the Communication category. 'LG EI Headline' is a global font that covers various languages, including Latin, Latin Extended, Greek, and Vietnamese, and was developed over a period of approximately 10 months from January to October 2023, in collaboration between LG Electronics Brand Management and the Design Identity Management department of the Design Management Center, together with Sandoll.

Sandoll has been recognized for its capabilities in the industry by producing multilingual fonts in Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, etc. through collaboration with numerous global companies.

In particular, this award is significant in that it is the result of worldwide recognition of Sandoll’s global font production capabilities and branding strategy reflection ability.

'LG EI Headline' received high praise for enhancing readability by finely adjusting the balance between letters and the kerning issues that can occur in a compound character system. The fact that it implemented consistent brand identity and natural user experience in various languages based on a deep understanding and technology of multilingual typography and compound character systems played a decisive role in winning the award.

It was also designed to enable natural recognition even in a complex character environment by applying variable font technology. This provides balanced readability and clarity in screen and print environments, and enhances the user experience while maintaining a consistent brand image in both digital and print media.

Currently, 'LG EI Headline' is being applied to various areas including LG's global digital and print communications, advertising, and website, and is expected to play an important role in strengthening LG's brand assets in the future.

A Sandoll official said, “This award is recognition of our efforts to provide a consistent brand experience to global users,” and added, “We will continue to develop fonts that can effectively convey the company’s identity in various language environments.”

Meanwhile, in addition to 'LG EI Headline', Sandoll is solidifying its global competitiveness in font production by winning the grand prize in the Brand & Communication Design category for 'November', a global font project produced in collaboration with Dutch type foundry Typotheque at the '2023 Red Dot Design Award'.

In 2014, Sandoll launched the first domestic subscription font platform, ‘SandollCloud’, and began providing font cloud services based on encryption technology. Various domestic and foreign font companies and independent designers are participating in SandollCloud, and it supports 16 multilingual characters. It also provides the largest number of multilingual free fonts in Korea. Free fonts are classified into two types: ‘free use and limited scope’, eliminating the inconvenience of users having to check the scope of use one by one, and free font pages do not display external advertisements, allowing convenient use of fonts.

In particular, in June 2024, the company acquired Yoon Design, one of the leading font companies in Korea, and established the largest and most numerous font platform in Korea, securing an unrivaled position with no competitors in Korea.

Here, Sandoll has been recognized for its deep understanding of Hangul and world-class font planning and production capabilities, and has produced fonts for global big tech companies such as Microsoft, Apple, IBM, and Samsung. It has developed basic Hangul fonts including ▲ Malgun Gothic, which is installed by default in MS Office, ▲ Apple iOS system font ‘Apple SD Sandoll Gothic NEO’, and ▲ Google·Adobe’s ‘Bon Gothic’, and is in charge of ▲ producing fonts for the Chinese character cultural sphere (CJK, Chinese, Japanese, Korean) of IBM Plex, IBM’s multilingual font series.
