Next Dream Angel Club announced on the 14th that it has completed a pre-A investment in the marine life bio company 'Biosion (CEO Woo-cheol Jeong)'. Next Dream Angel Club is a domestic professional angel club established in 2018 and comprised of approximately 150 members including VC reviewers, doctors, lawyers, patent attorneys, IBs, and corporate CEOs.
This pre-A round was jointly participated by Next Dream Angel Club and Gaia Venture Partners, with a total investment of 1 billion won.
Biosion is about to commercialize the alternative feed organism 'Moina' that has improved the shortcomings of 'Artemia', which is used as existing fry feed. According to the research results of the National Institute of Fisheries Science and Gyeongnam Fisheries Resources Research Institute, Moina has 170% higher fry growth rate, 146% higher survival rate, and 230% higher essential nutrients (DHA) than Artemia, which can improve the mass death and deformity problems of fry and innovatively increase the production of high-quality fish species.
Until now, mass production of water fleas has not been possible in the industry due to technological limitations, but Biosion has succeeded in developing a substitute feed organism using water fleas called ‘Moina’ and has established a mass production system in Jinju, Gyeongnam, capable of cultivating an average of over 100 tons per year, securing price competitiveness.
Next Dream Angel Club officials cited manpower specializing in marine organism cultivation as their strength. CEO Jeong Woo-cheol of Biosion majored in marine biology and has focused on marine organism cultivation for over 20 years with a doctorate in marine life sciences. He has proven his technological prowess in the marine field through 32 papers, 6 patent registrations, and 9 applications in the field. Vice President Jae-min Cheon also majored in marine life sciences and is an aquaculture expert with 18 years of experience in marine organism seeds and cultivation. CTO Seok-jung Kang majored in aquaculture and is an aquaculture expert who served as the head of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s national project division.
Recently, Biosion has been conducting production technology training for the field distribution of Moina, and is establishing a branch in Vietnam to strengthen its global market competitiveness and establish overseas market sales channels by producing seahorses using Moina and launching seahorse products.
Biocean CEO Jeong Woo-cheol said, “Through this pre-A investment, we plan to accelerate growth in various areas such as Biocean’s research and development, expansion of production facilities, and strengthening of marketing, and we will strengthen our position in the global market through cooperation with our partners.”
