Startup Alliance (Director Lee Ki-dae) published 'The Future of K-Platform: Global Trends and Response Directions in Platform Regulation' on the 4th. This book focuses on analyzing global trends in platform regulation issues that have been actively discussed recently and suggesting policy directions appropriate for the Korean situation.
In a situation where many bills related to platform regulation have been proposed in recent years but have not yet been enacted, this book analyzes the latest cases of major countries such as the US, EU, and Japan and presents balanced regulations and promotion strategies that reflect the uniqueness of the Korean platform industry. In particular, it emphasizes the need for customized policy design that takes into account the economic and social context of Korea, rather than simply imitating foreign legislation.
This book mainly deals with ▲ platform regulation legislative trends in the US, EU, and Japan ▲ current status after the implementation of the EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) and Digital Services Act (DSA) ▲ implications of the US Apple antitrust lawsuit on domestic industries ▲ direction of Korean platform regulation policies and promotion strategies. In particular, based on the concept of 'state platform capitalism', it presents policy directions to enable Korean platform industries to secure global competitiveness. To this end, it emphasizes the need to establish a regulatory system that reflects the characteristics of the platform industry and to establish a legal and institutional foundation to support the global expansion of domestic companies.
Startup Alliance Center Director Lee Ki-dae said, “Since the platform industry is directly related to increasing consumer welfare and sales channels for small and medium-sized businesses, all countries are eager to foster their own platforms. Our government should also recognize that platforms are a key driving force for economic growth and digital ecosystem activation, rather than simply viewing them as targets for regulation,” and added, “I expect this book to provide practical guidance to policymakers, academia, and startup ecosystem stakeholders as they consider sustainable growth strategies for the Korean platform industry.”
Meanwhile, Startup Alliance operates a research group comprised of academic experts to comprehensively analyze the core agenda surrounding the startup ecosystem, including platforms and AI, and through this, proactively discovers policy issues and establishes systematic arguments to establish response strategies. All research materials, as well as this book, can be downloaded for free from the Startup Alliance website.
