Portal301, an AI robotics company, announced on the 5th that it had attracted 1.5 billion won in Pre-A series investment from Stonebridge Ventures and Schmidt. The secured investment will be used to recruit excellent talent and improve software algorithms.
Recently, as the US manufacturing reshoring policy has been implemented, the number of companies relocating their factories to the US is increasing, and these companies are considering introducing automated robots to reduce costs and increase productivity. However, they are having difficulties introducing them due to the complex robot programming process and high costs.
Portal301 was established in 2022 to solve the difficulties of introducing robot automation. It has specialized technology in the field of robot software supply, with core personnel who have Ph.D.s in mechanical engineering from Seoul National University and those who studied abroad. Portal301's main business is to provide AI robot software called 'SyncRo', and this solution can innovatively shorten the existing robot automation process. SyncRo aims to replace dangerous and complex work and reduce the burden of human labor by equipping robots with the cognitive abilities of heavy industry workers.
Currently, SyncRo is being used as an automation program to replace manual surface treatment such as sanding/polishing, powder coating, and sandblasting. Recently, we have successfully completed a proof of concept (PoC) by supplying an automation robot for nuclear power plant waste decontamination to Ssangyong Heavy Industries, and are preparing for mass production of this equipment. In addition, we are receiving requests for automation technology verification from major corporations such as Hyundai Construction, and are receiving high evaluations for our technological prowess.
Team leader Hyun-Hoo Cho of Stonebridge Ventures, who led this investment, said, “Robot automation is not a market that can be successful with just technology. It is important to meet the functions required in the actual field and provide proven solutions. Portal301 is a company that can develop products through verification and quickly apply them to the market, and we expect it to grow into a major player in the automation industry in the future.”
“Portal301 will continue to innovate on the megatrend of AI robotics,” said Park Jang-jun, CEO of Portal301. “In addition to current applications such as powder coating and abrasive decontamination, we will actively preempt surface treatment processes in industries that require robot automation.”
