FM, Strategic Business Agreement with Korea Construction Living Environment Testing & Research Institute

FM announced on the 4th that it signed a strategic business agreement (Joint Research Agreement, JRA) with the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) for fire testing and research cooperation. This agreement signifies a partnership that cooperates in various areas such as sharing research and test results and post-certification management.

Through this agreement, FM and KCL will jointly study fire risks in manufacturing and industrial facilities in Korea. FM plans to provide fire prevention solutions suitable for the Korean market based on its Property Loss Prevention Data Sheet and contribute to improving safety standards in the Asia Pacific region.

FM analyzed loss data collected in the Asia Pacific region and identified fire as a major risk that Korean manufacturers should pay attention to. In particular, it warned that many Korean workplaces have combustible building materials and inadequate sprinkler installations that can cause damage to property and human life in the event of a fire.

Through this collaboration, FM will support companies in Korea and the Asia Pacific region to follow FM’s loss prevention guidelines and implement optimal fire prevention solutions.

KCL is an internationally accredited testing organization (KOLAS) that has a full-scale, state-of-the-art fire testing facility for medium and large-scale fire testing. Through this agreement, KCL has become the only organization in Korea capable of conducting fire risk assessment tests on materials and equipment used in commercial and industrial facilities.

“Effectively managing fire risks and preventing losses is key to sustainable growth for Korean manufacturers,” said Louis A. Grizzo, FM’s chief scientific officer. “Based on FM’s expertise in fire risk management, we will support companies in Korea and the Asia Pacific region to adopt reliable fire prevention solutions.”

KCL President Young-Gil Cheon said, “As the largest fire testing institute in Korea, we have been able to sign a joint research agreement with FM by leveraging our infrastructure and testing research capabilities,” and “We will do our best to develop solutions that can help domestic companies respond to crises such as fire and natural disasters in cooperation with FM.”
