International Digital Asset Committee Holds Seminar on Utilization of Digital Assets by Public Interest Corporations

The International Digital Assets Committee (IDAC, Chairman Won Eun-seok) announced on the 25th that it will hold the 'Public Interest Corporation Digital Asset Utilization Seminar: Expanding the Horizon of Social Contribution with Digital Assets' on March 10th in the 3rd Conference Room of the National Assembly Members' Hall.

This seminar is hosted by the office of Assemblyman Min Byeong-deok (Anyang-si, Dongan-gu Gap) and co-organized by the International Digital Asset Committee and the Digital Asset Donation Association (DADA). It aims to diagnose the current situation faced by non-profit corporations, which are the first to open the door to the 'utilization of corporate digital assets' recently permitted by the government, in utilizing digital assets, and to prepare practical alternatives for problems that need to be solved in the future.

IDAC is a public interest organization that carries out social expansion activities of digital assets in the fields of social contribution, culture and arts, and education with the goal of building a sound digital asset ecosystem. It carries out various social contribution projects such as supporting new artists, supporting local content creators, and supporting artists with developmental disabilities by utilizing digital assets.

The Digital Asset Donation Research Association (Chairman: Hong Won-jun, Visiting Professor at Gachon University) is a gathering that shares specific cases of applying digital assets to donations and discusses ways to spread positive influence socially with digital assets. Key figures from major domestic social contribution organizations such as World Vision, Fruit of Love, Beautiful Foundation, and Cherry, key figures working in the digital asset field, and key figures from academia and the legal profession are participating.

In order to deal with the issue of 'non-profit corporations' digital asset utilization' in a multifaceted and comprehensive manner, this seminar planned the presentation based on ▶ the digital asset market aspect, ▶ the position of non-profit organizations utilizing digital assets, and ▶ tax/accounting and legal/institutional perspectives.

At the seminar, Won-Seok Won, CEO of IDAC, will present a speech on the topic of “Social Contribution: Testbed for Creating a Digital Asset Industry Ecosystem” and suggest that the “non-profit” and “social contribution” sectors are good targets for expansion in building an ecosystem in terms of the digital asset market. Yoon-Ju Jang, Head of the Research Business Team at the Beautiful Foundation, will present a speech on the topic of “Current Status of Public Utilization of Digital Assets and Cases of Donation Processing,” discussing cases in which non-profit organizations have attempted to utilize digital assets so far and realistic problems encountered in the process of digital asset donation and fundraising.

Next, Lee Ho-seong, the representative of Ichon Tax Accounting, will present on the topic of ‘Tax and accounting issues related to the use of virtual assets by public interest corporations’, introducing the ‘Virtual Asset Accounting Supervision Guidelines’ and covering tax and accounting issues related to issuing donation receipts and paying taxes. Lastly, Lee Ji-eun, the representative attorney of Liberty Law Firm, will present on the topic of ‘Legal and institutional issues and challenges related to the activation of virtual asset donations’, examining the institutionalization process until corporations are permitted to use digital assets, and presenting institutional and legal matters that will be needed in the future.

Afterwards, a discussion will be held where the government, industry, and experts from each field will come together to share their opinions on the topic of 'How far have we come in utilizing digital assets by public interest corporations?' Professor Hong Won-jun will be the moderator of the discussion, and ▲ officials from the Financial Services Commission and the National Tax Service will participate as panelists to convey the institutional stance, and ▲ Upbit, representing digital asset exchange services, and companies that provide custody services that store and deposit digital assets, will participate as panelists to convey the stance of companies that provide digital asset services.

Rep. Min Byeong-deok said, “In the process of building a digital asset ecosystem, we can introduce a donation culture to expand the usability of digital assets. Based on the opinions discussed at this seminar, we will actively pursue institutional review to create an environment where non-profit organizations can efficiently utilize digital assets.”

IDAC Chairman Won-Seok Won said, “Nonprofit organizations are preparing to utilize their digital assets, but due to a lack of related information and difficulty in knowing specific methods, it is not easy for many nonprofit organizations to participate. Therefore, I hope that this seminar will provide an opportunity to suggest what nonprofit organizations should prepare specifically and lead to the participation of not only social contribution organizations but also universities and various social organizations.”

Meanwhile, this seminar is for non-profit organization managers and the general public who are interested in donation and social contribution activities using digital assets. Applications can be made on a first-come, first-served basis through the Eventus website, with up to 50 participants.
