ITMAX, Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education and 'Net Zero at School' Business Agreement

Daegu Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Eun-hee Kang) announced that it will fully launch the innovative project ‘Net Zero at School’ to foster carbon literacy in future generations and achieve carbon neutrality in schools.

As the role of schools has expanded recently with the introduction of digital textbooks and operation of after-school care classrooms, the energy consumption of school buildings is also on the rise.

The 'Net Zero at School' project aims to reduce carbon emissions in practice by comprehensively analyzing and managing carbon emission data from school buildings. It also provides data-based carbon literacy education to students to help them grow into leaders of the future society.

Daegu Metropolitan City is the region with the highest rate of renewable energy use in schools nationwide, and through the NetZero@School project, it is expected to play a leading role in realizing carbon neutrality in schools through demand management as well as supply conversion such as the spread of existing renewable energy.

Unlike existing energy-saving projects that have focused on building construction or equipment installation, the 'NetZero@School' project analyzes and manages school energy usage data according to international carbon emissions measurement and verification protocol standards, and provides carbon literacy education to school members including students, teachers, and parents to encourage awareness and practice of carbon neutrality.

Superintendent Kang Eun-hee said, “Through this project, we expect to see substantial reductions in school carbon emissions and educational effects, and we plan to further expand environmental education for a sustainable future society in the future.”

“The core goal of the ‘Net Zero at School’ project is to help future generations acquire the knowledge and capabilities needed to solve climate change issues,” said Ha Ji-won, CEO of EcoNow. “We will actively support students so they can grow into future leaders with carbon literacy.”

“By introducing Salesforce NetZero Cloud, which is used by global companies, to schools, we can maximize energy efficiency and precisely analyze carbon emissions,” said Geunmo Kim, CEO of i2max, a leading participating company in the NetZero Alliance. “This collaboration will be an important example of technological innovation for carbon neutrality in the education sector, and will contribute to strengthening the role of schools for a sustainable future.”

As the best partner of Salesforce Korea for 4 consecutive years, i2max has supported the internalization of net-zero cloud-based product carbon emissions calculation and integrated ESG management for leading domestic food and manufacturing companies. In addition, through collaboration with environmental consulting companies and climate environment education non-profit organizations, it is striving to reduce carbon through data-based school building demand management in accordance with international standards.
