Ministry of SMEs and Startups, 'Public-Private Cooperation Open Innovation Support Project' Recruitment

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced that it will recruit large, medium, and public institutions and startups with demand for the On-Demand field of the 'Public-Private Cooperation Open Innovation (hereinafter referred to as OI) Support Project' starting on the 25th.

The 'Public-Private Cooperation Open Innovation Support Project' is a project of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups to induce open cooperative relationships (partnerships) of mutually beneficial cooperation between large, medium, and public institutions and start-ups, and to establish and support a collaboration system. It consists of ▲problem-solving type (Top-Down), ▲autonomous proposal type (Bottom-Up), and ▲demand-based type (On-Demand) programs.

Through this business, Asta Co., Ltd., a start-up company that collaborated with KT in 2024, introduced its marketing content creation AI engine 'AVICA' to KT, resulting in a 99.5% reduction in marketing content creation time and a 60% reduction in business processing costs. Based on this PoC, it signed a licensing agreement with KT and was able to attract 400 million won in external investment during the collaboration period.

In addition, Thegam Co., Ltd. conducted a demonstration of EnerShift, an energy efficiency device for electric vehicles, in collaboration with Kakao Mobility, and signed an MOU with Kakao Mobility based on the results. The company plans to further develop the technology and verify it in the market through pilot projects, etc., and through this, it plans to verify the effectiveness of EnerShift and confirm its applicability in the electric taxi market.

Through this announcement, approximately 30 startups will be selected and each company will be provided with up to 60 million won in commercialization funds. In addition, as a follow-up, applicants will be eligible to apply for the “Startup Growth Technology Development” project, so we can expect to receive support for future technology development (R&D) development funds (up to 1 year, 120 million won).

In the case of demand-based fields, companies wishing to participate can directly check information related to open innovation of companies and apply for and propose collaboration online through “OI Market (www.oimarket.kr),” a dedicated public-private open innovation platform that has been in operation since last year.

OI Market (oimarket.kr) has surpassed 50,000 cumulative visitors in less than a year since its official opening in March 2024. Currently, more than 1,000 demand companies and startups are actively exploring and discovering cooperation partners through the platform, and it is establishing itself as a hub for open innovation.

In particular, it exclusively provides content such as Open Innovation Insights (11 times), Global Cases (12 times), and Success Story Interviews (9 times), and through these, it is greatly contributing to increasing the understanding of the field and enabling active participation by various organizations considering open innovation.

Lee Jun-hee, head of the New Industry Technology Startup Division at the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, said, “This year, participating companies will be able to find cooperation partners more quickly and conveniently through the advanced OI market platform,” and added, “I hope that many startups will actively utilize the opportunity to penetrate the market together with large and medium-sized companies through the open innovation (OI) support project and receive commercialization funding.”
