Promising domestic startups taking on the global market.

The innovative efforts of promising Korean startups, recognized for their superior technological prowess and remarkable business performance, are attracting global attention. These companies are being recognized as key technology companies by prestigious international media outlets and forums, and are engaging in collaborative discussions with major domestic and international corporations and key government agencies. They are proving their potential and potential as key players leading future industries by making a mark on the global stage.

In particular, promising domestic startups are demonstrating rapid growth based on their exceptional technological competitiveness while collaborating with global big tech companies. Furthermore, through their research and development (R&D) and commercialization efforts, they are establishing a unique position in cutting-edge industries such as artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductors, big data analytics, and autonomous driving.

Rebellion Targets the AI Semiconductor Niche with NPU

Rebellion, a fabless company specializing in neural processing units (NPUs), gained attention just three years after its founding by launching ATOM, an AI semiconductor for data centers. Recently, through a merger with SK Telecom affiliate Sapion, Rebellion achieved a corporate value of 1.3 trillion won, becoming the first domestic AI semiconductor company to achieve unicorn status.

Rebellion's NPUs are optimized for specific AI tasks, demonstrating differentiation in efficiency, expertise, and price competitiveness. As the AI market becomes increasingly fragmented, the importance of small, customized AI semiconductors is growing. Rebellion is expanding its market influence by leveraging the strengths of its NPUs. Currently, Rebellion is preparing for mass production of "REBEL," an inference-focused AI semiconductor targeting the large-scale language model (LLM) market, through collaboration with Samsung Electronics. Rebellion plans to accelerate its global market penetration by achieving tangible results in the United States, Japan, and Saudi Arabia, aiming for an initial public offering (IPO) in the year after next.

Rideflux , a domestically tailored autonomous driving technology

Rideflux, a self-driving software startup, is preparing to commercialize fully driverless autonomous driving in Korea by operating autonomous buses primarily on Jeju Island. Aiming to be a "Korean version" of Waymo, the autonomous driving subsidiary of Alphabet, Google's parent company, Rideflux has been demonstrating the stability and reliability of its technology since July of this year by operating the world's longest autonomous bus route, a 116-kilometer round-trip, on Jeju Island.

While Waymo is leading the global autonomous driving market by commercializing robotaxis, primarily in major U.S. cities, Rideflux is solidifying its position in the domestic autonomous driving market based on its technological prowess optimized for Korea's geographical characteristics and transportation environment.

Beyond passenger services, Rideflux is strengthening its competitiveness by expanding into new areas such as autonomous cargo transportation. It is currently developing a 25-ton autonomous truck and is preparing to launch a paid cargo transport service on the 61.3km stretch connecting Gunsan Port and the Jeonju Logistics Center. Furthermore, the company plans to focus on advancing its autonomous driving technology and increasing profitability, aiming for a KOSDAQ listing next year. Through expanded partnerships, the company aims to establish itself as a leading autonomous driving company in Korea, comparable to Waymo.
