SG Healthcare (CEO Kim Jeong-su) , a specialized manufacturer of imaging diagnostic medical devices, announced on the 18th that it had signed a supply contract worth approximately 1.5 billion won with a local client in Singapore.
SG Healthcare CEO Kim Jeong-su explained, “This contract is SG Healthcare’s entry into the Singapore market, which is the Asia-Pacific headquarters for global companies, and it secures a bridgehead in the Asia-Pacific market,” adding, “It is also the result of proving sufficient growth potential and competitiveness in the global market in the future.”
CEO Kim said, “The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) product being delivered this time is an ‘AI-accelerated MRI’ product that allows for easy installation through the implementation of ‘on-device AI’ and has the advantage of being able to fundamentally block external leakage of medical information.” He emphasized, “We will continue to accelerate the development of medical device software that incorporates AI technology through continuous research and development to establish ourselves as an innovative solution company.”
The product supplied this time, the MRI medical device 'INVICTUS', can examine musculoskeletal diseases such as the spine and observe soft tissues such as muscles, ligaments, and the brain nervous system. The product is equipped with a 1.5 Tesla (T) magnetic field and an artificial intelligence (AI) noise removal algorithm for high-quality images, and its strength is that it has adopted a 'helium-free magnet' that does not require liquid nitrogen for cooling the magnet, which is a key component.
Another supply product, the computed tomography (CT) medical device 'DOMINUS', is a device that rotates 360 degrees in the cross-sectional direction of the human body examination area and examines X-rays to confirm three-dimensional images. The product is used for the purpose of examining diseases such as fractures, internal bleeding, and tumors, and is the first domestic manufacturer to receive product approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS).
In addition to MRI and CT, SG Healthcare has a diverse product portfolio including X-ray, ultrasound examination equipment, and surgical fluoroscopy equipment (C-arm). The company is building a so-called Full Line Up that can respond to all imaging diagnostic equipment required by hospitals, and this is the only one of its kind in Korea.
In addition, the company quickly recognized the market demand for introducing artificial intelligence (AI) technology for medical devices and established a subsidiary, Mint Labs, to proactively respond, and began developing specialized AI software for medical devices with the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), successfully developing and commercializing the software in 2023. In particular, it obtained approval for its AI software products from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in 2022.
