Tool Space Completes Smart City Patrol Robot Demonstration Project with Hyundai Construction

AI autonomous driving patrol robot specialist ‘Dogu Space (CEO Jinhyo Kim)’ announced on the 13th that it successfully completed a demonstration project for ‘Utilizing autonomous driving patrol robots for specialized application of future city projects’ together with Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

This PoC program is a collaborative program conducted jointly with Hyundai Engineering & Construction's business departments after Dogu Space was selected as a smart safety startup at the 'Hyundai Engineering & Construction x Seoul Startup Open Innovation' co-hosted by Hyundai Engineering & Construction and the Seoul Economic Promotion Agency in 2024.

The main goals of PoC are ▲securing empirical data and deriving guidelines for designing and building robot-friendly architecture ▲preliminary verification for introducing autonomous patrol robots to Hyundai Engineering & Construction’s business sites such as construction, housing, and mixed-use development. To this end, a verification was conducted by using one outdoor patrol robot from Tool Space, ‘Patrover,’ to patrol the parking lot and roads outside the Hyundai Engineering & Construction building.

Tool Space's Patrol Rover is a model specialized for outdoor patrols, and is equipped with dustproof and waterproof functions and high durability, enabling stable autonomous driving even in bad weather. It also applies security AI technology to recognize various dangerous situations such as ▲fire and gas detection ▲abnormal noise detection ▲fall detection. In May of last year, it obtained 'Outdoor Mobile Robot Operation Safety Certification' from the Korea Robot Industry Advancement Institute (KIRIA), making outdoor patrols even freer.

The patrol robot deployed for this PoC was operated with specialized AI functions such as ▲sending an announcement when a smoker is detected in a non-smoking area, ▲detecting high temperatures at electric vehicle charging stations, ▲sending an announcement when a person approaches, and ▲performing regular patrols day and night and collecting driving data, so that patrol robots can be utilized in future construction projects such as smart cities and robot-friendly buildings.

A tool space official said, “Through this PoC program, we were able to secure data on robot appearance, weight, speed, and functions required by construction companies,” and “We will use this as an opportunity to develop customized patrol robot services and functions for construction companies.”
