Jeju Center, 26 local creator small business owners fostered

The local creator training companies selected by the Jeju Creative Economy Innovation Center (hereafter, Jeju Center) last year are bringing vitality and innovation to the local community with excellent performance.

The Local Creator Development Project is a project overseen by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (hereinafter referred to as the MSS) and managed by the Small Business Market Promotion Agency (hereinafter referred to as the SME Market Promotion Agency). It is a program that discovers and develops local creators who create business value by combining innovative ideas based on regional resources and cultural characteristics.

As the main organization in the Jeju region, Jeju Center fostered a total of 26 companies (23 individual companies and 3 collaborative teams) last year.

In particular, at the '2024 Integrated Local Festa' held in Haenggung-dong, Suwon from December 5 to 7 last year, 'YJ Company (CEO Kim Bong-jin)' won the first place grand prize, and 'From Jeju (CEO Jin Jeong-eun)' won the second place grand prize, drawing much attention. In addition, 'Barredance Surf (CEO Kim Jun-yong)', which achieved excellent results in the Jeju region, also stood out.

WJ Company has led the new branding of Jeju fish cake through 'premium fish cake' that breaks away from the existing fish cake mold, and has also succeeded in advancing into overseas markets. It is pioneering a new market for high-quality fish cake by entering major commercial facilities such as Oasis Market, 5-star hotels, and golf courses.

From Jeju, we are operating an online and offline farm-to-table service that utilizes Jeju agricultural products to take advantage of Jeju’s local characteristics. We are introducing agricultural products that reflect Jeju’s food culture using bracken, water parsley, etc., and are building a distribution platform based on our long-term experience of cooperation with producers within the island.

Baredance Surf aims to be a lifestyle brand based on Jeju's surfing culture, and is introducing various surfing products. It is also creating Jeju's surfing culture through surfing-related events such as 'Jeju Surfing Trip', 'Jeju Surfing Festival', and '2024 Korea Surfing Association Chairman's Cup Korea Open National Team Selection'.

In addition, 'Saltbypep' received JQ certification for its high-protein, low-fat steak made with Jeju Hanwoo, and is continuing successful brand expansion by opening a Jeju Hanwoo flagship store. 'Blue Bean Bangju' developed soy sauce with Jeju green beans, and was recognized for its long-term research results, winning the Prime Minister's Award in commemoration of Small Business Day in 2024.

A Jeju Center official said, “Local creators and small business owners are seeking ways to coexist with the region while their businesses grow,” and “We will continue to spare no support so that the small business owners fostered by the center can contribute to solving regional issues.”
