The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (Minister Oh Young-joo, hereinafter referred to as the MSS) announced on the 5th that it is announcing the 'AI Core Field and Promising AX Startup Fostering Project' to foster high-growth AI startups that create new markets and economic value by converging with various industries based on AI technological innovation in the global market.
This project is the first new project to implement the 'Super Gap AI Startup Level Up Strategy' (announced on 24.7.10) announced in July of last year to intensively foster high-growth AI startups that can create and grow new markets within the AI ecosystem. It is the first 'Micro Super Gap' program, the first of three programs announced last month as the 'Super Gap Startup 1000+ Project'.

A total of 20 promising AI‧AX startups will be selected through this announcement, and the details are as follows.
◆ Commercialization of AI core areas
sLLM will select five promising AI startups in high-growth fields such as manufacturing, bio, and content, and provide up to 150 million won in technology commercialization funds for technological advancement, etc. In addition, depending on the characteristics of each field, the utilization of infrastructure such as GPU-based AI computing resources and verification centers owned by the 'Artificial Intelligence Convergence Business Unit', the main organization, will also be supported.
◆ Promising AX Startup Development
In the three major fields of manufacturing, bio, and content where it is easy to create economic and social results, 15 AX startups with innovative AI technologies that can be applied to and advanced in the products and services of large, medium, and small businesses, etc., will be selected. The selected companies will be supported with 80 million won in collaboration funds and new sales channels.
This announcement will accept applications from the 5th to the 25th, and among the startups selected for this project and supported, startups that have achieved excellent results through performance evaluations will be additionally supported to enter the global market by linking them to the 'Ultra-Gap Startup' project.
Meanwhile, we plan to continuously announce follow-up projects related to the ‘Super Gap AI Startup Level-Up Strategy’ after this announcement.
First, we plan to announce the 'AI Super Gap Challenge' at the end of February, which will secure sales channels and induce commercialization through demand-based collaboration between global corporations and promising domestic AI startups, following the previous year.
In particular, this year, we will expand the scope of collaboration with LG Electronics in the field of 'on-device AI' devices from existing laptops to TVs. In addition, we plan to provide collaboration opportunities in the new field of 'vertical AI' with Qualcomm Korea, and we plan to continue expanding collaboration with other new big tech companies.
Next, we plan to announce the 'AI Regional Key Industry Linkage Project' in April, which matches innovative AI startups with AX collaboration based on the AI technology demand of regional leading small and medium-sized manufacturing companies operating key industries in each region.
Minister Oh Young-joo said, “AI is a core field that determines not only the industry but also the fate of the country. To support the growth of AI startups in high-growth fields, we announced the ‘Super-Gap AI Startup Level-Up Strategy’ last year.” He added, “This project is the first to implement the level-up strategy, and we will continue to pursue follow-up support projects to ensure that the strategy is implemented without a hitch.”
