Schneider Electric (Korea Branch Representative Jiwoong Kwon ), a global company leading the digital transformation in energy management and automation, has been selected as a Lighthouse in the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) category by the World Economic Forum (WEF).
The World Economic Forum’s DEI Lighthouse Program identifies best practices for diversity, equity, and inclusion across industries and shares best practices and strategies with global business and public sector leaders.
At this year's DEI Lighthouse, Schneider Electric was recognized for its contribution to the Decarbonization and Renewable Energy Systems (DESFERS) program, which is being implemented in collaboration with the international relief and development NGO Plan International.
Since 2019, Schneider Electric has been implementing the program 'DESFERS' to help women achieve economic independence, and has been supporting women in the Sahel region, including Senegal, Mali, and Niger, by providing green technology education, improving technical school facilities, and supporting women's entrepreneurship, helping them advance into the sustainable energy sector. As a result, women in rural areas who have difficulty participating in the economy due to social restrictions are also experiencing real changes and gaining new opportunities.
The program is being carried out as part of Schneider Electric's global social contribution goal of 'Youth Education & Entrepreneurship', and aims to provide education necessary for energy transition to 1 million young people, especially women, and support 10,000 entrepreneurs by 2025.
To date, a total of 7,204 women have completed green technology training through the DESFERS program, 6,099 women-led green businesses have been created, and over 20,000 women have gained access to renewable energy solutions and financial support. In this way, Schneider Electric is supporting women to lead the sustainable energy transition by building a strong ecosystem including education, mentoring, and access to finance.
“Achieving a just energy transition requires everyone’s effort,” said Chris Leong, Chief Sustainability Officer at Schneider Electric. “Together with the Schneider Electric Foundation, Schneider Electric is maximizing the potential for sustainable development by embedding women’s participation across the entire energy value chain.”
