Enbionia announced on the 8th that it is starting to supply ‘ceramic-based flame retardant material (Ceramic Paper)’ for ESS to major domestic companies.
Enbionia has been conducting joint research and development with major domestic companies since 2022, and has completed product standardization and performance testing. After its first supply in January of this year, it began full-scale mass production in May. The ceramic paper supplied by Enbionia is a key material used to prevent thermal runaway in ESS and EV batteries.
Enbionia has invested a total of over 8 billion won in facility improvement since 2022, and optimized the mass production process in October of last year. It is currently working on improving production efficiency with the goal of establishing a 24-hour continuous operation system, and it is expected that a full-scale operation system will be established soon.
In addition to ESS and EV, ceramic paper is also used as a heat-resistant and insulating material in industries that require a lot of heat energy, such as iron and steel, power plants, and chemicals. In particular, it is thinner, more uniform, and has a higher density than existing ceramic felts, so it is gaining attention as an insulating material for precision parts in high-temperature environments. In the global market, Morgan in the UK and 3M in the US are supplying the product to aircraft, automobiles, and high-temperature gaskets, and Enbionia is also in the process of mass production with several large domestic companies.
An Enbionia official expressed confidence, saying, “We cannot disclose specific details due to embargoes with major domestic companies, but the results of our bold R&D and facility investments are becoming visible,” and “We also plan to soon announce the results of various advanced composite materials currently under development.”
Han Jeong-cheol, CEO of Enbionia, emphasized, “We are focusing our entire company’s capabilities to quickly respond to the demand for ceramic-based composite materials,” and “This achievement is just the beginning. We will be re-evaluated as the number one domestic small and medium-sized business (materials, parts, and equipment) through mass production and sales of high-quality ceramic paper.”
