Defense AI solution specialist Funjin (CEO Deukhwa Kim) announced on the 10th that it received a commendation from the Minister of National Defense at the '2025 Drone Industry Merit Awards Ceremony' held at COEX in Seoul on the 9th, and an encouragement award for the '2025 Defense Research and Development Incentive' from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration on the same day.
The Minister of National Defense Award is given to individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of the drone industry and cutting-edge technologies in the defense sector. Funjin was honored with the award in recognition of the technological prowess of its self-developed artificial intelligence electromagnetic spectrum reconnaissance drone system, 'KWM-Ocelot.'
'KWM-Ocelot' is a reconnaissance drone system developed as part of the AI-based command and decision support system 'KWM (Kill-Web Matching)'. The technology detects, analyzes, and identifies enemy communication signals in an electromagnetic environment, and can assign missions in real time according to the operational situation. It was demonstrated at the Army-hosted AI idea contest last May, and presented the possibility of applying it to the battlefield for next-generation drone warfare response.
On the same day, at the '2025 Defense Research and Development Incentive' ceremony hosted by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, Pungjin also received an incentive award based on its achievements in developing AI-based battlefield adaptive decision support system technology. The incentive is a system awarded to researchers and institutions that have demonstrated excellent research and development results according to the 'Defense Science and Technology Innovation Promotion Act'.
With this achievement, Funjin has now been recognized for its technological prowess by numerous government ministries, including the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, as well as the Ministry of National Defense and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration.
In the future, Pungjin plans to continuously advance its AI-based KWM technology series that can be linked with various heterogeneous weapon systems such as drones, robots, and electronic warfare, thereby leading the innovation of the defense R&D ecosystem.
A PUNGEEN official said, “This award is recognition that PUNGEEN’s defense technology has practical operational applicability and strategic value,” adding, “We will continue to contribute to technological innovation in the defense sector using AI.”
