The Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Institute (Director Jeong Hae-sik) announced on the 10th that it held an agreement ceremony for the '2025 Self-Reliance Business Activation Infrastructure Construction Project' with Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do and Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do on July 9th at its headquarters in Seoul.
This agreement aims to increase the sustainability and performance of self-reliance projects by creating joint workplaces for self-reliance job centers and self-reliance enterprises and establishing a regional collaboration system. The project has been in operation since 2022, and 22 local governments across the country have participated so far.
Shinan County and Yeongcheon City were selected for the 2025 project, and a total of 2 billion won will be supported, with 1 billion won for each local government. In particular, this year, the construction of a wide-area joint project space is being introduced for the first time, and the focus is on expanding the physical foundation for inter-regional collaboration.
Yeongcheon City plans to create a joint business space that integrates and operates eco-friendly self-reliance businesses such as coffee grounds recycling, unused PC recycling, and reusable container washing under the theme of 'resource circulation'. Through this, the plan is to realize resource, technology, and space sharing among self-reliance business groups and build a self-reliance cluster linked from production to distribution and service.
Shinan County is promoting the construction of a local self-reliance center that reflects its geographical characteristics as an island region, and plans to strengthen its self-reliance foundation by operating a Korean food and bakery self-reliance business linked to tourism resources. It will be a multi-functional center that replaces aging existing facilities, and will serve as a regional base by integrating education, counseling, production, and operation functions.
The Korea Self-Reliance Welfare Development Institute plans to support the entire business process for selected local governments and systematically manage the results. The plan is to expand best practices nationwide in the future and develop them into innovative models for self-reliance projects.
Director Jeong Hae-sik said, “Both Sinan County and Yeongcheon City were highly evaluated for proposing self-reliance models that take into account regional characteristics and resources,” and added, “We will continue to work to create a sustainable self-reliance ecosystem by building a space-centered collaborative infrastructure.”
