Busan Changgyeong, Receives Busan Metropolitan City Mayor's Award at '14th Population Day Commemoration Ceremony'

The Busan Creative Economy Innovation Center (CEO Yongwoo Kim, hereinafter referred to as Busan Creative Economy) received a commendation from the Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City in recognition of its contribution to expanding the resident population and enhancing regional vitality at the 14th Population Day commemoration event held at the Busan City Hall Grand Auditorium on Friday, July 11.

On this day, CEO Yongwoo Kim shared the progress and major achievements of the Busan-type workation project through a presentation on the results of the local extinction response fund project held at the ceremony, and presented the direction of development including expansion into a ‘global workation’ in the future.

'Busan-type workation' is a program that supports employees of overseas companies and startups to stay in Busan for a certain period of time, while simultaneously working remotely and experiencing the region. It is gaining attention as a representative example of a policy to counter the extinction of local areas, as it increases the possibility of settling in through the process of actually living in Busan, rather than simply visiting or traveling.

According to Busan Changgyeong, as of December 2024, a total of 10,194 people have used the program through this project, and 10 overseas startups have relocated their headquarters to Busan. In particular, Soft Squared Co., Ltd. and Risol Co., Ltd. were selected as 'Ministry of SMEs and Startups Baby Unicorn Companies' and have shown remarkable growth since moving to Busan. In addition, according to the results of the participant satisfaction survey, 93% of the respondents answered that 'the overall perception of Busan has improved through this project', showing that it has also contributed to improving the city's image and brand value.

CEO Kim Yong-woo said, “Busan-style workation is not a method of short-term consumption of the region, but a structure that aims to make people stay and lead to settlement,” adding, “We will continue to work to establish Busan as a ‘city where people want to work’ and a ‘city where people want to live’ through various contents such as family-type workation and global linkage programs.”
