Recon Labs (CEO: Sunghoon Ban), an AI-based content creation technology company, announced on the 18th that it was selected as the lead organization for the sub-task of 'Establishing an AI Pipeline Reflecting Design Workflow' in the 'Designer-Centered AI Creation Pipeline Development' research and development (R&D) project supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
This project is a large-scale project with a total of 11.3 billion won, with the government supporting 9.5 billion won, and the research will be conducted by dividing it into two sub-projects. Recon Labs will participate as a joint research institute in the first sub-project and as a lead institution in the second sub-project, with the goal of securing core technologies for AI-based design-manufacturing linkage and strengthening the global competitiveness of the design industry. Professor Hyun Kyung-hoon of Hanyang University will be in charge of the overall project.
In the design field, generative AI is being used in various fields such as graphics, advertising, and video, but inefficiency problems due to indiscriminate repetitive generation are being pointed out. Recon Labs plans to develop an AI design pipeline that mimics the work flow of an actual designer and build a service that enables detailed design and editing. It will also promote manufacturing innovation by establishing a process that links design results to the manufacturing process.
To carry out this task, Recon Labs will work with Hanyang University, KAIST, and others to develop detailed editing and intention inference technologies for generative models, and will study the manufacturing linkage pipeline for generative 3D results with Narnia Labs, a manufacturing AI company. In addition, professional design institutions such as the Korea Institute of Design Promotion, SWNA, and Korea National University of Arts will participate, and Hyundai Livart and Coptik (Brism) will verify the application and commercialization of R&D results in industrial sites as demand companies.
“In an era where the use of generative AI is important for design competitiveness, developing an AI pipeline tailored to designers is a task that simultaneously increases productivity and creativity,” said Recon Labs CEO Ban Sung-hoon. “Through this research project, we will implement an AI service that reflects the actual work methods of designers and provide innovative solutions that span from design to manufacturing, leading the global AI design industry.”
