Inspien (CEO Jeong-gyu Choi), an electronic data interchange (EDI) solution company, announced on the 22nd that it has acquired a 100% stake in EDI specialist B2B C&I Co., Ltd. and is actively pursuing a hybrid strategy encompassing cloud and on-premise environments.
Through this acquisition, Inspien now has a dual structure that can encompass not only its cloud-based electronic document service, 'Connect Service', but also customers who prefer on-premise systems, such as traditional industries and public institutions.
'Connect Service' is the first cloud-based EDI SaaS in Korea, and has acquired the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's NEP (New Technology Certification), the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's CSAP (Cloud Security Certification), and recently met the requirements for public institutions through registration with the Public Procurement Service's National Procurement Service. Through this acquisition, Inspien has expanded its customer base to include logistics, import/export, and public institutions, where the introduction of built-in systems is still the mainstay.
The company evaluated this acquisition as “a strategic stepping stone to strengthen the EDI supply base that encompasses both the public and private sectors and to flexibly respond to the cloud transition trend.” In particular, it is analyzed that since it has both CSAP certification and on-premise provision capabilities, it will be able to respond reliably to the cloud transition needs of public institutions.
EDI systems are known to still have strong on-premise demand in areas that require high security and stability, such as shipping, air logistics, customs clearance, and customs declaration. The industry believes that through this acquisition, Inspien will be able to expand its customer base and, in the long term, induce a transition to cloud-based SaaS.
An Inspeon official said, “This acquisition is a strategic decision to maintain the competitiveness of our cloud-based ‘connect service’ while also accommodating on-premise customer demands,” adding, “It has laid the foundation for building an end-to-end linked service encompassing the public and private sectors.”
