Suprema (Co-CEOs Jaewon Lee and Hancheol Kim), an AI integrated security solution company, announced on the 23rd that its facial authentication-based access control terminal met the European Union's (EU) enhanced Radio Equipment Directive (RED) cybersecurity requirements and obtained CE RED certification.
The EU has included new cybersecurity requirements (Delegated Act (EU) 2022/30) in the existing RED regulations to strengthen personal data protection and cybersecurity, and they will be fully implemented starting in August 2025. All IoT devices that include wireless functions such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC must meet these standards to enter the European market.
The products that have been certified this time are Suprema’s AI-based facial recognition terminals ▲BioStation 3 and ▲BioEntry W3, which are AI edge devices that perform deep learning-based facial authentication within the device. These products also support various authentication methods such as Bluetooth, NFC-based mobile access cards, and RFID cards, and have satisfied all of the key items of the strengthened RED standards: ▲network protection ▲personal information protection ▲fraud prevention.
Suprema said that, starting with this CE RED certification, it plans to complete the certification process according to the strengthened regulations for all of its major access control products, including fingerprint recognition and other authentication methods, within the year.
“This certification is an official verification that Suprema products meet internationally required security and wireless stability standards,” said Kim Han-cheol, CEO of Suprema. “We will continue to strengthen our technology and quality capabilities so that customers can operate reliable access control systems even in an enhanced cybersecurity environment.”
