Ministry of SMEs and Startups, 'Public-Private Cooperation Open Innovation Support Project' Recruiting Participating Companies in the Second Half

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups (hereinafter referred to as the Ministry of SMEs and Startups) announced that it will publicly recruit open innovation demand companies* and collaborative startups to participate in the second half of the 'Public-Private Cooperation Open Innovation (Open Innovation) Support Project' from Thursday, July 24 to Monday, August 18.

The demand-based track being announced this time will be piloting a ‘follow-up collaboration type’ that supports the creation of results for companies with which collaboration has already been established, in addition to the ‘new collaboration type’ that supports meetups and matching between demand companies and startups as before.

Open innovation projects are carried out through repeated trial and error in stages from task establishment, partner matching, technology verification, and commercialization. However, many open innovation support programs have had difficulty promoting the creation of actual commercialization results by only providing one-time support for early-stage collaboration.

Accordingly, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups plans to establish a step-by-step support system by linking open innovation programs scattered across various organizations. The newly launched 'follow-up support track' will support follow-up collaborations between demand companies and startups that have previously confirmed collaboration suitability and the possibility of creating commercialization results through the initial open innovation programs of public institutions and private companies.

A total of 20 or so collaboration teams will be selected through this contest, and the selected startups will be able to receive customized support, including collaboration funds of up to 60 million won, consulting services required for collaboration, and professional training. In addition, participating startups will also be provided with R&D opportunities.

Details of the business announcement can be found on the website of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups , and applications for ‘new collaboration types’ can be made through the Daegu Startup Hub , and for ‘follow-up collaboration types’ can be made through the K-Startup Portal .

Kyungwon Cho, the Director of Startup Policy, said, “We expect to be able to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of support through linkages between open innovation support programs,” and “We will support ‘growth for all’ companies through open innovation by establishing a continuous support system based on performance at each stage of open innovation.”
