Daegu Center, '4th Daegu Startup Open Innovation Meetup Day' held

On Thursday, July 24, the Daegu Center for Creative Economy and Innovation (hereafter referred to as the Daegu Center) held the '4th Daegu Startup Open Innovation Meetup Day' at the Daegu Center for Creative Economy and Innovation C-quad to expand collaboration opportunities between leading companies (large, medium, and public enterprises) and promising startups.

This meetup event was hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the city of Daegu, and co-organized by the Daegu Center and the Daegu Research and Development Special Zone Promotion Foundation Daegu Research and Development Special Zone Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Special Zone Foundation). It was organized to support promising startups in the deep tech field to achieve rapid growth through collaboration with leading companies, focusing on 12 national strategic technologies.

On this day, five companies, including Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), SK Energy, Ecopro Partners, Korea Gas Corporation, and Hoban Group, which are key leading companies in national strategic industries, participated in the event, presenting various demand areas for each leading company’s main industries and new business discovery and exploring possibilities for cooperation with startups.

The event included an introduction of demand technologies from leading companies and pre-integration networking, and a total of 30 1:1 business meetings with 22 promising startups selected through pre-demand-based matching, creating many possibilities for collaboration within a limited time.

The 'Daegu Startup Open Innovation Meetup Day', which has been held since 2023, has established itself as a venue for collaboration opportunities, with a total of 51 leading companies and 175 startups participating over a total of 4 times, conducting active business meetings and leading to follow-up cooperation.

A total of 180 collaboration possibilities were discovered over the past three meetings, and 18 of them have since led to collaborations such as verification. After this meetup, leading companies have derived 17 collaboration possibilities, which are expected to lead to various actual collaborations in the future.

Starting this year, the Daegu Center plans to expand the implementation of not only large-scale meetups where leading companies and startups from various industries converge and discuss collaboration, but also small-scale meetups that promote collaboration between industries in the deep tech field. As its first step, it has collaborated with a special zone foundation that fosters promising startups in cutting-edge technology fields such as universities and research institutes.

Through this event, active discussions on collaboration were held focusing on advanced future strategic technologies such as hydrogen, artificial intelligence, advanced robots, quantum, and cybersecurity. In addition, the Daegu Center plans to expand the collaborative commercialization support system through future meetups and cooperation with various innovative organizations focusing on Daegu’s future new businesses such as robots and ABB.

Daegu Creative Economy Innovation Center Director Han In-guk said, “Opportunities for open innovation begin through the meeting and communication between leading companies and startups,” and “Daegu Center will expand support in cooperation with innovation organizations such as special zone foundations so that innovation opportunities initiated by leading companies and startups can lead to actual collaboration.”
