Velonex Co., Ltd. (CEO Jaehong Kim), a drone-based industrial facility inspection specialist, announced on July 24 that it signed an official agreement at the 'WP Digital Innovator Activity Project Development Participating Company Business Agreement Ceremony' hosted by Korea Western Power and will participate in the unmanned inspection technology cooperation system for the digital transformation of power generation facilities.
This agreement was promoted in accordance with the digital innovation strategy of Western Power Generation to enhance the smartness of the power generation industry and the safety of facilities through cooperation between industry, academia, research institutes, and private technology companies. The participating companies, including Velonex, plan to conduct joint development centered on verification based on their respective technologies.
Through this collaboration, Velonex plans to apply SLAM-based autonomous indoor drones, drone LiDAR-based 3D real-time scanning and AI-based automatic defect detection technology, and digital twin-linked simulation technology to high-risk confined spaces (such as boilers, pipes, and silos) in power plants. This will enable the phased implementation of unmanned inspection systems, analysis based on facility status data, time-series management of inspection history, and demonstration of predictive maintenance systems.
“This agreement goes beyond simple technology provision and is the starting point for building a digital inspection ecosystem to enhance the safety and operational efficiency of power generation facilities,” said Kim Jae-hong, CEO of Velonex. “Through our collaboration with Western Power, we will strengthen field verification and data-based analysis, and contribute to the digital innovation of the power generation industry.”
