Busan Changgyeong and Fukuoka, Japan, Host Bio Startup Exchange Program

The Busan Creative Economy Innovation Center (CEO Yongwoo Kim, hereinafter referred to as Busan Creative Economy) announced that it will plan and operate the first local business exchange program to promote global expansion between Korean and Japanese bio startups in collaboration with Fukuoka Jisho, a Fukuoka, Japan-based urban development and startup support company.

The program, 'Plug in: Fukuoka #2', will be held at the Fukuoka CIC (Cambridge Innovation Center) from Thursday, September 25th to Friday, September 26th.

This program was planned in conjunction with the "Fukuoka Maidashi Life Science Lab Project," a project being promoted by Fukuoka Jisho, and is slated to open in early 2026 on the campus of Kyushu University Hospital, a national university in Japan. This project is significant not only for fostering practical collaboration between the Fukuoka region's bio ecosystem and promising Korean startups, but also for fostering a foundation for exchange within the global regional startup ecosystem.

"Plug in: Fukuoka #2" aims to foster business collaboration and joint market entry between biotech startups in Busan and Fukuoka. Participating Korean and Japanese startups will present their business to investors and biotech industry professionals from both countries and participate in a variety of programs, including one-on-one feedback meetings, technology exchanges, collaboration partner exploration, and a tour of the Fukuoka ecosystem.

This program is recruiting two Busan-based bio startups, and applications can be submitted online through the Busan Startup Portal until Monday, August 5th.

Participating startups will be selected through a first-round document review and a second-round presentation evaluation process, and upon selection, airfare and the entire local program will be supported.

A Busan Changgyeong official stated, “We will continue to establish a foundation for global expansion of Busan’s bio industry as well as technology startups in general through strategic cooperation with Japan, and together we will create a foundation for exchange that connects the global regional startup ecosystem.”

A Fukuoka Jisho official said, “Fukuoka is a strategic base for the bio industry within Japan, and we hope that through this exchange program, we can understand each other’s ecosystems and discover specific ways to cooperate.”
