The Korea Startup Forum (Chairman Sang-Woo Han, hereinafter referred to as KOSPO) announced on the 30th that the MICE Tech Industry Council (hereinafter referred to as the Council), a private-sector-led consortium promoting digital transformation in the MICE industry, has officially launched.
The council kicked off its activities in earnest on the 15th with a kickoff meeting and launch event held at Maru 360 in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Thirteen startups active in the MICE industry participated in the event, including Ground K, Lubook, Myslink, Manman Guys, Maze, Blue Origin, Circle Connection, Opener Dioc, OnOffMix, WizL, Eventus, EasyTask, and Campus Stay.
The council is a startup-led collaborative body dedicated to digital transformation and regulatory innovation in the MICE industry. Its goal is to foster a sustainable industrial ecosystem based on private sector autonomy and practical industry experience. Jang Dong-won, CEO of Ground K, was elected as the council's chairman, and three subcommittees have been formed: Technology (CEO Ahn Young-hak of Eventus), Planning (CEO Hwang Seong-min of Opener Dioc), and Public Relations (CEO Lee Hyeon-jin of MICE Link). Professor Yoon Young-hye of Dongduk Women's University will serve as an advisory committee member and assist in setting policy directions.
The council plans to focus its activities on ▲digital innovation in the MICE industry ▲building an inter-industry collaboration network ▲policy proposals and regulatory reform. Through these efforts, the council aims to serve as a startup-led, private-sector-led policy platform and strengthen practical cooperation with the government and relevant organizations.
The MICE industry is recognized as a collective platform with significant economic and cultural impact, driven by convergence with diverse industries and reflection of societal changes. Accordingly, the council plans to introduce technology-based innovations to the MICE sector to secure global competitiveness.
Koo Tae-eon, Vice Chairman of KOSPO, said, “The launch of this council is a joint response by the startup industry to the need for digital transformation in the MICE industry, and it will establish itself as an innovative policy model led by the private sector.” He added, “If the government and local governments actively improve their systems in parallel, the Korean MICE model will be able to become competitive in the global market.”
Council Chairman Jang Dong-won stated, “Integrating technology into the MICE industry is not simply about digitalization, but about creating a new business order.” He added, “We will promote a private-sector-led digital transformation through policy proposals that reflect the voices of the industry and collaboration between startups.”
