Medicon Co., Ltd. (CEO Dong-Hoon Ha), a specialized manufacturer of medical devices and beauty devices for skin care, announced on July 18th that it had won the "19th 2025 Republic of Korea Excellent Patent Award." Hosted by The Hankook Ilbo and sponsored by the Korea Intellectual Property Office, the award was given in recognition of Medicon's excellence in ultrasound-based skin care technology.
Founded in 2006, Medicon is an ODM company specializing in the development and production of non-invasive energy-based skin care equipment and home beauty devices. Headquartered in Wonju Enterprise City, Gangwon Province, the company holds GMP certification and a medical device manufacturing license, and is conducting ongoing R&D based on ultrasound and radiofrequency technology.
To date, the company holds 34 technology patents and 36 design and trademark rights. It also secures numerous intellectual property rights, including three SCI-level papers and two academic papers, and is focusing on technological advancement. Of these, 21 are ultrasound-related patents. In particular, its self-developed MFU (Micro Focused Ultrasound) device, based on HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) technology, is recognized for its high performance and durability compared to existing imported equipment.
Their main product is "Ultight," which utilizes MFU technology and is currently exported to 17 countries. This technology provides painless skin-lifting effects through high-precision focusing, and is characterized by its miniaturization and low noise. They also supply home beauty devices utilizing derivative technologies, such as "Lukins (export name: DWAVE)" and "Madecaprime Infinity."
Recently, Medicon has been actively expanding into the global market, signing contracts with the US and Hong Kong for its multi-ultrasound-based skincare device, "ULKIN," and its homecare device, "TWAVE." With the continued growth of overseas demand for K-beauty, requests for ODM services are also on the rise, and the company is focusing on developing new products based on its combined ultrasound and radiofrequency technology.
Medicon is also working to ensure technological stability and clinical reliability through industry-academia-research collaborations. Through joint research with the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Yonsei University and the Department of Beauty Science at Hansung University, the company is strengthening its clinical and certification foundation. Furthermore, the company participates in over ten academic conferences annually, including the Korean Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Laser Medicine and the Korean Society of Aesthetic Surgery, to continue its collaboration with medical professionals.
"Beauty tech goes beyond simple product manufacturing; collaboration with clinics and medical verification are essential," said Ha Dong-hoon, CEO of Medicon. "Based on our technological prowess and manufacturing expertise, we will secure differentiated competitiveness in both domestic and international markets." He added, "To achieve our mid- to long-term goals of an IPO in 2026 and annual sales of 30 billion won by 2027, we will continue to pursue advanced technology development and global expansion strategies."
