AI-based media dubbing startup Hudson AI has been selected as the main operator for the K-advertising-based free streaming (FAST, Free Ad-supported Streaming TV) expansion support project specializing in AI dubbing, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Association for ICT Promotion.
This project, based on the global media platform "K-FAST," which boasts over 140 million viewers worldwide, aims to expand K-channels by enhancing viewer immersion and local competitiveness in response to the demand from overseas viewers who prefer dubbing over subtitles. The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) is promoting this project with the goal of enhancing viewer immersion and local competitiveness of K-content through high-quality dubbing utilizing AI technology. Six consortiums and 20 K-channels with superior AI dubbing technology and competitive media content have been selected.
Hudson AI, the first company in Korea to commercialize AI-based media dubbing, supplies Timbr, an AI dubbing solution that generates immersive, natural voices, to a diverse customer base, including broadcasters, media outlets, and creators. The company demonstrated its technological prowess in 2023 by providing SK Broadband B tv with the first case of AI dubbing applied to a feature-length film in Korea. Furthermore, in collaboration with LG U+, the company demonstrated scalability by applying AI dubbing to live sports broadcasts, delivering Korean professional baseball content to international fans.
Through this project, Hudson AI will dub approximately 300 hours of drama over a four-month period, focusing on its "AI Dubbing Agent" technology. This technology, based on precise audio segmentation and speaker recognition, can accurately analyze each speaker's lines and acting timing, even in dramas and films featuring more than 20 speakers. This advanced AI dubbing system directly directs and generates performances, and continuously improves quality through automatic evaluation and learning of the results.
Shin Hyun-jin, CEO of Hudson AI, said, “We hope that this project will serve as an opportunity to intensively utilize Hudson’s voice AI technology for the global expansion of K-content and to advance domestic AI media technology.”
