– AI can be used to reduce costs, provide diverse promotions, and provide customer service.
– The 5th D-SME Executive Course will be held from September.

The Platform SME Research Center at Kookmin University (hereafter, the Center) announced that it held a presentation last month on the results of a practical training session on generative AI for digital merchants (online sellers). This training was conducted in collaboration with Selfish Club. Digital merchants (D-SMEs, Digital-Small and Medium Enterprises) are small business owners, including online sellers, who conduct business activities based on digital platforms.
The performance sharing session shared real-world examples and strategies for implementing the latest AI tools in practice to reduce budgets or improve work efficiency. This generative AI training, held three times from May to July, involved digital merchants (online sellers) utilizing generative AI across all aspects of marketing, from new product planning to image creation and customer service.
Traditional Korean confectionery brand Baodam leveraged generative AI to create short-form videos, enabling a trendy promotional approach. Furniture brand Galong reduced costs by creating visual image content of Korean cuisine with Midjourney instead of preparing actual food. Food brand Songjjujip implemented poster design, copywriting, and overall marketing for a department store pop-up promotion with Midjourney and ChatGPT, reducing marketing costs while delivering a consistent brand message. Premium walnut brand Doctor Hodoo leveraged generative AI for customer service by introducing an automated response system that integrates AI with customer reviews.
Eunseon Han, the business team leader at the research center who planned this training, said, “We planned this training to support digital merchants’ AI utilization capabilities in the rapidly changing e-commerce environment, and we will continue to strengthen AI training to enhance the brand competitiveness of digital merchants.”
Meanwhile, the Research Center will be running the 5th D-SME Executive Course (hereinafter referred to as the Executive Course) for a total of 11 weeks from September 25th to December 11th.
