The Busan Creative Economy Innovation Center (CEO Yongwoo Kim, hereinafter referred to as Busan Creative Economy) announced that it will work with the city of Busan to advance the strategy of 'Busan-style workation' by 2025 and begin in earnest to expand customized content for users considering diverse demand groups at home and abroad.
This year, with the goal of truly establishing workation and expanding its participants, we will focus on enhancing our content around three pillars: ▲Global workation by inviting foreign digital nomads, ▲Lifestyle-friendly services such as part-time childcare and pet care, and ▲On-site briefing sessions for companies.
First, the "2025 Busan Global Workation" event will be held four times over approximately three months, from August to October, inviting approximately 150 foreign digital nomads. Participants will stay for two weeks at Busan's workation hubs and major tourist destinations. They will work remotely in dedicated workspaces, interact with local youth and entrepreneurs, and participate in themed cultural and tourism experiences.
Building on the success of last year's pilot program, which attracted 81 foreign participants, this year the event plans to further expand the program's completeness and operational scope through collaboration with private operator Hoppers Co., Ltd.
In addition, various new, lifestyle-friendly services will be introduced to address the inconveniences faced by workation participants. The "Family Workation Part-Time Childcare Support Program" for participants with infants and toddlers will be available starting in August. Participants from outside Busan and international participants will also be able to utilize childcare services for up to 60 hours per month.
Additionally, for participants staying with their pets, we are establishing a foundation for diverse groups to participate without inconvenience through partnerships with pet-friendly accommodations and dog hotels.
To expand corporate participation, "Workation Field Briefing Sessions" are held year-round. We visit companies and organizations in the Seoul metropolitan area and other metropolitan areas to introduce the workation program and offer customized programs tailored to each organization's size and work characteristics, thereby increasing participation. In particular, we are strengthening practical, on-site explanations to connect with diverse corporate needs, such as employee benefits, in-house refresher programs, and regional training.
Busan Changgyeong CEO Kim Yong-woo said, “Busan-style workation is evolving beyond simple remote work support into an urban innovation platform that embraces diverse lifestyles,” and added, “We will continue to expand content tailored to the needs of both companies and consumers, and grow Busan into a leading global workation city.”
